Over 1 Million Users Access Facebook Via Dark Web

3

Every internet user wants to retain their privacy on the internet—especially when they are being watched by third parties. This month, Facebook observed an increase in the number of users using the social media platform via the Tor Network. The Tor Network is the only network that protects the user’s identity and does not watch their internet activities.

Tor Network is renown for its cyber criminals, activists and many others who want encrypted communications. Facebook introduced their social network inside the Tor Network, where users can communicate with end-to-end encryption and with full privacy. We can also use Facebook on the Tor Network via mobile sites, which were also introduced by Facebook.

You can log on to Facebook via the Tor Network (However, make sure you are logged on to the Tor Network to access Facebook’s Onion site.)

You can also connect to Facebook via Tor through the Facebook android application by enabling the option or connections through Orbot.

Facebook added:

“People who choose to communicate over tor do so for a variety of reasons related to privacy, security and safety. As we’ve written previously, it’s important to us to provide methods for people to use our service securely particularly if they lack reliable methods to do so.”

How Do I Get Started With Tor Network?

In order to access the Dark Web, Onion Router or Tor Network, you must first download the Tor Browser.

Download Tor Browser

After downloading the Tor Browser, you should know how to safely access Tor sites via this browser, which you can read from the Tor Browser’s official site: https://www.torproject.org/download/download.html.

What is Tor Browser?

Tor Browser helps internet users communicate on the internet via end-to-end encryption, helping to hide your identity.

“[Tor Browser] is pre-configured to protect your privacy and anonymity on the web as long as you’re browsing with the Tor Browser itself. Almost any other web browser configuration is likely to be unsafe to use with Tor.”

To access Tor Sites {.onion}  you need to be logged on to the Tor Browser; it isn’t available on the normal network. Tor Network is an underground world, which you will explore much more than the usual network. In this ‘underground’ world, famous hackers can often be found.

However, there are some pitfalls that can be noted, as stated by the Tor.org website. In addition, you will need to “change your [browsing] habits” to remain ‘safe’:

“Be smart and learn more. Understand what Tor does and does not offer. This list of pitfalls isn’t complete, and we need your help identifying and documenting all the issues.”

  1. Facebook tells on you no matter how you log on. Must enable JS. Must accept cookies, etc. Using tor for a surface website that is literally trying to take over, control, and become the internet is not only pointless, but harmful.

  2. The only real use of tor link is not so much privacy, as fb completely de-anonymizes you upon loging in, but to get around firewall restrictions blocking facebook.
