On Saturday, a caravan of 9 buses was traveling back from a children’s summer camp through the city of Abakan, the capital of the Khakassia Republic in southern Siberia when a cop—who is now being hailed as a hero—did the unthinkable.

Aleksandr Kosolapov, a Russian police officer, was accompanying the convoy of approximately 300 children when a reckless driver in the opposite lane began to veer into the path of the kids. As the onrushing Toyota Caldina, which was accelerating at a dangerously high speed, inched closer across the dividing line and ultimately into the wrong lane on the Abakan-Ak-Dovurak highway, Officer Kosolapov knew he had a decision to make—and he had to make it without hesitation.

Without regard for his own life, the 39-year-old man, who was entrusted to escort the busloads of children back home without injury, swerved his Ford Focus patrol car in-between the lead bus and the out-of-control vehicle. The calculated but devastating collision left both vehicles completely totaled and the officer with serious injuries.

‘The officer quickly assessed the situation and risking his own life, he managed to prevent a head-on collision,’ said Khakassian police“As a result of the massive collision the patrol car was literally turned into a pile of metal. According to the experts, it’s a miracle the police officer is still alive.”

Officer Kosolapov is now conscious and in stable condition.

As for the five passengers—one of whom was a 10-year-old boy—who were inside of the crashed Toyota; they all survived the wreck and miraculously sustained only minor injuries.

None of the children aboard the buses were harmed.

Authorities are now reviewing the incident and have opened a criminal case under articleViolation of a person driving a vehicle, traffic rules or operation of vehicles, resulting in the infliction of serious harm to human health,” against the careless driver.

  1. Looking at the vehicles, I think this officer performed a Miracle with the (have to) crash. No side damages, where people would be sitting, just the front end.

I know those 300 children will be glad to see him again! ?

  2. Wonderful instincts he has, but are you sure one family sedan would have totaled 9 buses in a convoy? Fairer to say he saved the 5 in the sedan, who would had suffered far worse if they fronted with a bus, and perhaps a few non-lethal injuries in bus nr. 9

    • the first bus would probably have been fine, although a lot of the kids would have had concussions. (I’ve been on a bus that only tapped a car while it was going around 20 mph: hitting a car full speed would do a lot more)
The 8 buses behind the first one though that slammed into the back of it would have been fucked.

    • What Bob said.. also you gotta remember that busses don’t have seat belts, and with the first bus being hit, the ones behind it would either run into it,or even roll over trying to swerve. A school bus pile-up could have been tragic.

      • ehh, most school busses has seat belts in Norway, i mean, i think they would have seat belts before a cop convoi, its like the kids safety was High priority – they probably had seat belts – no busses are allowed on roads with higher speed limmit than 80km/h if there are no seatbelts.

    • The road only has one lane in either direction. How is it physically possible for a police car to swerve in front of a bus on that road? Was the cop car driving outside the road for some reason?

  3. This is the courage and care for human life that American law enforcement can only dream of becoming! This country has sunk so low! Anyone got a ticket to Russia? I think I want to move there.

    • Yeah, cause the grass is always greener on the other side… If you all were really so terrified of cops you wont even attempt your silly videos where you record yourrselves carrying on like snobby peasants when confronted by the police. That is the problem with America, not the law enforcement. But the people and the media. You focus on the bad and live in a country where you stand up for those who disobey the law and disrespect the officers so you can stand up for the criminals… If you lived in another country where law enforcement is truly bad you wouldn’t even dare record never mind be so cheeky with an officer. Its like of some of these guys wish they get shot or mistreated.

      • It’s hard for people to see past the perspective of the world the media wants you to see. Fear, hatred, ‘focusing on the bad’, etc.

  4. God bless the Siberian officer for his daring act. I pray he would have quick healing and freedom from pain or financial trouble.
