A few nights ago, Leonardo DiCaprio won a Golden Globe award for his role in his latest film The Revenant. While accepting the Best Actor in a Drama award DiCaprio dedicated his achievement to all of the indigenous tribes around the world in a moving speech that left the entire room standing with applause.

“Lastly, I want to share this aware with all the First Nations people represented in this film and all the indigenous communities around the world,” he said after the usual thanks expressed to producers and directors. “It is time that we recognize your history and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people that are out there to exploit them,” DiCaprio continued. “It is time that we heard your voice and protected this planet for future generations.”

This isn’t the first time DiCaprio has expressed his concerns for the future races of humanity. His impassioned push for indigenous rights is amongst other activist goals he is trying to achieve with his status as one of Hollywood’s most sought after actors.
