Esmeralda Rossi, a Arizona resident, is suing two Chandler police officers after they entered her home illegally in March and arrested her while she was naked.
Chandler Police Officer Doug Rose and Officer David Selvidge turned up at Rossi’s home after receiving a 911 call about her argument with her estranged husband at his home. When they arrived, Rossi was in the shower and her daughter answered the door.
“I was in the shower. My daughter came to the shower and said there are two officers at the door. So I just grabbed a towel and ran to the door,” she told ABC 15.
After answering the door, Rossi said Rose turned aggressive so she asked them to wait at the door so she could go get a cell phone in order to record the encounter. After closing the door and taking “about five steps in”, Rossi heard footsteps behind her and someone yelling “stop or I’ll arrest you”.
The situation escalated when her daughter began recording.
“You are under arrest. Please turn around and put your hands behind your back,” Rose says as he grabs her.
“He grabs my hand, my towel falls. I am not trying to resist arrest; I’m just trying to cover myself,” Rossi said.
“You have absolutely no clothes on?” Rose asked. “No! I was in the shower! What is wrong with you?” she screamed.
Then Rose lectures Rossi, saying, “When a cop shows up… you’re not the one in charge. I don’t care if this is your house. Do you understand me?”
“I’m not doing anything! I don’t want to touch you! Don’t touch me!” Rossi can be heard saying in the video.
“I felt helpless. I felt violated. And honestly, I felt molested,” Rossi told ABC 15.
Rose arrested Rossi for disorderly conduct and domestic violence because she was “extremely uncooperative”. In the end, however, she was not charged with a crime and he allowed her daughter to remove the handcuffs.
After looking at the footage, Chandler police determined Rose had entered the home illegally and without probable cause. It was also noted that Rose hadn’t documented arresting Rossi or the fact that she was naked. There was also no body camera footage documenting the encounter.
Marc Victor, Rossi’s attorney, said, “This was not the proper treatment of a citizen. This was disgusting. This was barbaric. Any one of us would be upset if a police officer barged into our homes without permission. She had a right to be upset.”
In the middle of the investigation, Rose retired and is collecting a full pension. No criminal charges were brought against him. Selvidge was cleared of any wrongdoing.

I used to live in Mesa, Arizona right next door to Chandler. I went to flight school there. There is a rather prominent church in the area and many members are cops. I also used to be a member of that church. I mention this because this crap has happened before with members of that church. I am not at all surprised to read the main offender in this retired in the middle of all this. It was more than likely a deal with the guy to get him out of the picture with hopes of calming this situation down. I am glad to read the woman in this is suing!
