Capital Shame: A Toddler & A 5-Year-Old Mercilessly Gang-Raped In New Delhi

Close on the heels of the horrific rape and torture of a four-year-old girl last week, two more cases of young girls being gang-raped have been reported in the span of 24 hours from New Delhi.

In the first incident, a two-year-old girl was found lying unconscious and bleeding in a park by her family three hours after she went missing. Doctors said she sustained severe injuries, which will need multiple surgeries. There are tears in her genital areas which confirm forced penetration. She also has cuts and bruises on the upper half of her body and her face.

Police said she had been playing outside her home in west Delhi when there was a power cut in the area and she was abducted by two men on a bike. The girl’s mother has claimed that her daughter was kidnapped while she was watching a Ram Lila performance (a religious fair) near her house. The police have apprehended two 17-year-olds  after more than 250 suspects from the locality were rounded up and questioned.

In the second incident, a five-year-old was raped by three men in east Delhi. The girl was alone at her first floor house when one of the accused took her to his house on the second floor and then raped her along with his friends. Residents found the girl crying with her clothes partially torn with blood spots all over them. She told them she was sexually assaulted by the three. Residents then caught hold of them and handed them over to police.

Both girls are battling for their lives in the hospital.

Swati Maliwal, the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, reacted strongly on Twitter.

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, also took to Twitter to condemn the ghastly acts and blame Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s central government for the security situation in the capital. Kejriwal and Modi are jostling for control of Delhi’s 84,000-strong police force, the largest metropolitan police force in the world.

Ranjana Kumari, Head of Delhi-based Centre for Social Research, said the ongoing turf war between the two governments has left New Delhi vulnerable to such horrific crimes. Delhi is not safe and secure for women and the situation is deteriorating. Most of these incidents have been reported in lower income areas like slums and densely populated areas, where mostly migrants stay. These men live in crammed spaces with no social or parental control and usually no fear of law,” she told AFP.

A series of recent attacks has renewed public fury and horror over India’s inability to halt endemic violence against women and girls.

    • Death is far too merciful, there is no amount of torture, rape and violence i would limit these men to.
Break them, make them feel as vulnerable and tormented as their victim. They are horrible, make me sad and id make them beg for death

  1. More than disgusted about the needs of men becoming more than their morals can provide. This sickness is everywhere and now is the time for immense punishment and global answers. Enough is enough.

  2. This tragedy makes me sick, to gang rape
babies is barbaric and cruel. If the cops
and government won’t do anything maybe the
People could castrate them for starters

  3. What is going on in the society that would explain this need to overpower women and children. I refuse to believe that this is the what happens when there’s no punishment put in place to deter this behavior. It’s not the default behavior for the lack of being held accountable. What would explain this ?
