Aoshima, also known as Cat Island, is a tiny remote island located in the Ehime Prefecture of southern Japan. Believe it or not, cats on this island outnumber humans 6 to 1, hence its name.

While the prospect of living on an island filled with cats might sound pretty amazing, imagine what residents have to deal with when the food supply for the felines gets low, as it did recently due to poor weather conditions…

Because bad weather prevented food supplies from being delivered to Aoshima – where there are no stores or vending machines, one caretaker recently turned to the internet for assistance:

With mind to prevent a feline uprising, she tweeted:

“Please send cat food to Aoshima. There are no stores to buy food here on Aoshima. The people here acquire their necessities by taking a boat to the mainland. However, it’s extremely windy in winter, and boat service is often suspended.”

Amazingly, only a few days passed before the island received its first delivery. The caretaker Tweeted:

“Thank you for all the supplies.

We can’t get any more cat food in the storage area, so we put it in the waiting room.

With things the way they are now, we have enough food to last until the end of March, so please don’t send any more for now.

Thank you very much.”

But then the donations didn’t stop, forcing the caretaker to tell the internet:

“Please stop sending supplies (cat food) to Aoshima. We got far more than we ever expected, and there’s no more storage room. We’ll be fine until April. Thank you all very much.”

    • Maybe its because cats dont have religious wars or invade other countries an bomb the fuck out of major cities…theres plenty of people rich and poor that make a huge difference in third world countries in need jay z brings water to villages anjolina jolie sets children free an my old neighbor erica makes care packages for hungry families..they all helped people that will one day Most Likely raise an ak with a vengeance… id rather watch you die than any one of those cats

    • because they don’t like themselves and think humans are a bad race because they destroy everything (while destroying everything), so cats deserve it more to be cared for than humans. Or they simply fear foreigness for what reason ever

    • Humans are kinda blowing up and destroying everything. Cats are just lying around, chilling, all day. In certain cases, I’d go cats too.

    • I agree with you completely. It’s so sad that people go out of their way for an animal but won’t open a door for an elderly person, won’t give up their seat for a pregnant woman, won’t support a working man, won’t pick up a child if they fall. I see so many humans, but so little humanity.

    • Well, it is being done for humans, too, more organized.
But the point you’re probably trying to make is about the mindset that leads to victim blaming. Humans like to blame humans for their misery (whether true or not) because accepting the alternative is too troublesome for their convenient minds.

  1. We should round up and dwliver them all the feathered rats aka pigeons we have in our cities. I hope they have a spade snd neuter program so they dont get any more cats for a while. Also, get those cats a job. Food wont always be free snd some look like cute furry blobs. P

  2. Even a nice happy sorry like this gets trolled. I’ll tell ya why cats get aid, if ya send cats cat food, they’re gonna eat it. If ya send a human money, there’s no assurance that the aid won’t be used for something else.

  3. Very unsatisfying article. Do I have to assume that the help arrived with a boat that is more weather-resilient?
And if the regular boat connection is known to be unreliable in winter, how inept must the islanders be to not keep proper storage capacity for emergencies?

Could the actual reason be financial? Naturally just saying “We’re somewhat poor here and all the cats don’t help.” wouldn’t do the trick. But if you let it come to an acute situation like this, it’s much easier to get that support.
On the other hand, they did put a limiter on the requested support, so I haven’t made up my mind at all. It’s just a puzzling story.
