Cellebrite – the Israeli security company, has been hit hard by hackers, with a breach seeing 900GB of data stolen. The Israeli company is most known for its assistance to the FBI during the San Bernardino case, when the federal agency wanted to crack the code of the shooter’s phone. Something that Apple refused to assist with.

Motherboard reported that the company’s “cache include[d] customer information, databases, and a vast amount of technical data regarding Cellebrite’s products.” Although the hack has been confirmed by the company, who admitted to an investigation now being in progress, Cellebrite did “downplay” the incident.

“Cellebrite recently experienced unauthorized access to an external web server. The company is conducting an investigation to determine the extent of the breach. The impacted server included a legacy database backup of my. Cellebrite, the company’s end user license management system. The company had previously migrated to a new user accounts system. Presently, it is known that the information accessed includes basic contact information of users registered for alerts or notifications on Cellebrite products and hashed passwords for users who have not yet migrated to the new system,” the company said, further attempting to assure customers that no great compromise has been made.
