France, Russia Shun GMOs; American Media Turns A Blind Eye

1

On September 17, France followed in the footsteps of other European Union countries—Scotland, Germany, Latvia and Greece — and announced an opt-out from growing GM crops. The country asked the European Commission to exclude its national territory from the release of 9 GM maize varieties already authorized (1 GM Maize variety – MON9810) or awaiting authorization by the EU. France had already banned cultivation of Monsanto’s GM maize, saying it had serious doubts that it is safe for the environment.

“This decision is in line with the Act of June 2, 2014 banning the cultivation of GM maize in the country supported by Stéphane Le Foll. It is part of the very important progress made by the new European framework on the implementation of GMO cultivation in which France played a leading role. This directive makes it possible for Member States to request the exclusion of their territorial scope of existing authorizations or of those under consideration,” read an official statement.

The next day, Russia announced a ban on GMO food production in the country. The government decided that any food production in the country will completely exclude any genetically-modified organisms or parts thereof.

“As far as genetically-modified organisms are concerned, we have made decision not to use any GMO in food productions,” Deputy PM Arkady Dvorkovich said at an international conference on biotechnology in the Russian city of Kirov. If the Americans like to eat GMO products, let them eat it then. We don’t need to do that; we have enough space and opportunities to produce organic food,” Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev had said last year.

Two of the world’s most modernized and economically powerful countries decided to ban a type of food crop that has made its way into roughly 70-80% or more of the US food supply, but the announcements failed to find space in the mainstream media.

Forbes, CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, NBC, Fox News in US, and BBC, The Daily Mail, The Telegraph, The Independent, The Guardian in UK, and various other mainstream media groups, chose not to cover the news. A quick Google News search turned up virtually no results for the bans by Russia and France; other independent news resources, and a few scattered alternative news sites, however, reported the news unbiased.

Wonder why the mainstream media fails miserably to report any news against Monsanto?

Take a look at these facts

House of Representatives: Total paid by Monsanto to Democrats: $72,000 /Total paid by Monsanto to Republicans: $190,500.

Senate: Total paid by Monsanto to Democrats: $37,500 /Total paid by Monsanto to Republicans: $85,000

When American politicians are getting cold cash by Monsanto to help it slide its icy tentacles into the food chain, you can imagine what pressure the ‘journalists’ must be under.

  1. Someone needs to tell the irish government quickly that GMOs are banned so they can do the opposite to every other country who are banning it. by introducing it in ireland and begin poising the irish people because our politicians will find away to make a few shillings from some dodgy deal by allowing it to happen similar to fracking this country will split in two if fracking is allowed someone somewhere is making money why else would you ignore the people of the country for a minority of elites to make mega bucks will the country only gets token gestures.
