You Don’t Have to Vote for Clinton or Trump, There Are Other Candidates Still in the Race

With the unfortunate, yet entirely not-surprising announcement that Hillary Clinton would not be indicted, we thought it might be a good idea to once again remind everyone that, despite what the media would have you think, there are more than two presidential candidates to choose from.

Every election is narrowed down by the establishment and the media to the democrat and republican parties, and this has led to the common but widely unspoken belief that to even be taken seriously as a presidential candidate, you must be either one of the two. This has been the status quo for generations, and for generations we’ve watched corrupt presidents come and go. We know it’s time for a change, and it seems logical that choosing a president who is not among one of the “established” parties could be a good start.

The media is currently saturated with reports that speculate which way Sanders-supporters are going to go, however they seem to be trying to limit the Sanders-supporter’s choice to either Clinton or Trump, making no mention of the various other presidential candidates, especially Jill Stein whose platform resembles that of Bernie’s.

#OpJillStein is still in effect, and now more than ever it is important for citizens to research the alternatives. Stein is a member of the Green Party, and like Sanders, she is fighting for renewable energy, creating living-wage jobs for American citizens, and setting a $15/hour federal minimum wage. She wants to establish universal healthcare and education as a right, lead a global treaty to halt climate change, and make GMO labeling mandatory.

Stein also plans to restore the constitution, which has been shredded by the Patriot Act, and this includes terminating unconstitutional surveillance, the persecution of whistleblowers, abolishing secret kill lists, closing Guantanamo Bay, and bringing an end to the Police State. As well as tackling these issues at home, she also wants to establish a foreign policy that is based on diplomacy, international law and human rights, and she would cut unnecessary military spending by at least half. For more information, see Jill Stein’s Power to the People Plan.

Jill Stein of the Green Party:

Also still in the race is Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party. Like both Sanders and Stein, Johnson wants to end government surveillance and persecution by the federal government of marijuana use. He wants to limit the power of the federal government, and believes that so long as it does not bring harm to others, citizens should be free to marry whom they want, arm themselves, make their own decisions about their bodies, and lead their lives as they see fit without the scrutiny of the NSA, the ATF, the DEA, or any other government agencies.

Johnson believes in Internet freedom and security without interference from the government. He opposes increased regulation and intrusion into the Internet, as well as so-called Cyber Security legislation which would allow the government to insert itself into citizen’s freedom of communication, and even provide “back doors” into private, encrypted information. He wants to remove the federal government from our children’s educational system, and while acknowledging the “War on Drugs” as having been a failure, he wants to reform the criminal justice system as well. Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party:

You still have a choice, and quite a few would agree that the alternatives available beat both Trump and Clinton by a longshot. For those who feel the need to shower with bleach at the thought of voting for either of these two shady characters; don’t let the media fool you into believing you have to choose from either a racist, misogynistic liar, or a manipulative, corporate hawk.

Democrats and republicans have ruled American politics for decades, and under that rule our voice has been stolen by rigged elections, we’ve seen an acceptance of bigotry, we’ve watched greed flourish, and we’ve seen mass-destruction on a global level. Under the democrats and republicans we’ve created a police-state, a prison-industrial-complex, a military-industrial-complex, and an economy that is rigged by a powerful and secretive corporate system.

Here’s an interesting experiment: Try asking friends and family members how many political parties they can name, and you might be surprised to find that many people have no idea there are more than two. There are in fact a multitude of political parties to choose from, and included among those that are considered “major” parties is the Constitution Party, the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, and the Independent/Independence Party. Some moderately popular parties include the Progressive Party, the Reform Party, and the Working Families Party.

No matter the outcome this election, it’s up to citizens to bring change, and continuing to support those in establishment-politics is only seems to make things worse. Do the research, share the information, and talk to your friends and family. Now’s the time to act.
