A Letter to Susan Komen

To Susie (I can call you Susie right? We’re about to get personal after all.),

Susan Komen, you should be ashamed of yourself. You promote pink ribbon day and the importance of breast cancer awareness, yet you support and advocate strongly for pesticides in our food. For a woman in your ‘respected’ position, who raised so much awareness with your bold campaigns in the early days, have you forgotten your main cause in the name of capitalist greed? Shame, shame, shame! People listen to your words of advice about cancer. Now look at what you’ve done?

And when you dare to question why it is I am so angry, I will pose another question to you. How can you support and sign labelling contracts with well-known carcinogenic products such as PepsiCo? Why does your non-profit organization have a $55 million profit? Why are you paying your CEO over half a million dollars in wages per year? The more I read, the more I see these figures as misrepresented. There seems to be a consensus that they are much higher. And please, please tell me you didn’t make a statement saying:

“Many people choose to eat organically because they think that organic food is more nutritious or healthier. However, consumption of organic food is a controversial issue and high quality human research is lacking in this area. Specifically, claims of higher nutritional value and lower toxic contaminants in organic foods currently have little scientific evidence supporting pronounced benefits. Some studies have shown that organic food has a lower amount of pesticides, but research has not confirmed that lower amounts of pesticides are causally related to preventing certain diseases or conditions.”

Ahhh, you said it, didn’t you? It’s right there on your webpage. I’m really not sure if that’s entirely true. Trust me when I say I will be digging for evidence now. Yes I have read the entire paragraph, and it still reads a little ‘dodgy.’ It’s very misleading to say the least. We all know that research has been conducted into the area of phenols and polyphenols and their health benefits.  With my limited scientific knowledge, I’m still under the impression that these naturally occurring substances within plants not sprayed with pesticides, are actually quite conducive to fighting different types of cancer.Well, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition thinks so, too.

As for your partnerships with certain companies…I’m confused as to how you can support them other than for their financial gain and sponsorship. Your recent team up with KFC? Aren’t they about fried food? Last I looked fried food can be linked to obesity, heart disease and you got it, cancer. It’s a special kind of stupid (forgive me for saying) when an organization such as yours teams up with a sponsorship like this. Talk about contradictions. I’m on the team of What the Cluck is that all about?

So this is what happens when capitalism seeps into your blood? Or was it a calculating move from the get-go? I’m angry. I’m disappointed. Many family members have struggled with cancer and many of my friends have battled breast cancer – referring to your site for peace of mind and advice. I’m simply lost for finger lickin’ good words…

  1. AnonWatcher,

    Thank you.

This topic hits home for me as my mother is a breast cancer survivor.

I remember all the Susan G. Komen walks we used to partake in. Heck, I was the captain of our community team all throughout high school. I only wish the 4th grade me knew then what I know now.

Now I’ve taken control of my health and my family’s by consuming WHOLE, NON-GMO, ORGANIC fruits, vegetables and the like, and to hear such an ignorant statement from such a despicable organization only fills me with more energy to share my message with the world.

Anyone reading this, know that all the power you need to become healthy lies within yourself. All you have to do from there is fuel your body and mind with the best plant foods possible to let your true spirit shine through.

Organization, corporations, medical institutions, government agencies, they’re all in bed with each other and get off every time they hear “time of death” in a sterilized hospital.

Do yourself and the entire planet a favor. Support local, organic, non-gmo plant foods that support a healthy life and a sustainable human existence.

    Infinite gratitude,
    Markos J.K.

  2. Having awareness walks and donation drives are such a good way to raise money. Or even things like “Buy this and we’ll donate 25 cents to it”.
Why would they want that to go away. Of course they want cancer around. They get more money by treating it than they would by curing it.

  3. Agreed. Real quick note to anyone and everyone including you anonymous watcher, look up black salve. It literally pulls cancer our of your body. Use that along side weed oil and a vegan diet and your whorver has cancer will not need to suffer. Ps. Pain killers will be needed for using the black salve. For certain cancers like ones deep in the body i do not recommend Black salve.

  4. silent spring by rachel carson has a lot of old, but powerful references to pesticides causing certain cancers and neurological problems. Look up accumulation of toxins in animals, one place to start is Bioaccumulative potential and toxicity of endosulfan insecticide to non-target animals by Syed M. Naqvia, and Chetana Vaishnavia. please publicize.

  5. Should I even bother mentioning that the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation launched a deal with the Baker Hughes shale gas company, in which their drill bits (used in the fracking process, the wastewater from which contains chemicals believed to be cancer-causing) were painted pink? Or that the foundation attempted to pull its funding from Planned Parenthood, a leading provider of breast cancer screenings in the U.S., before protests led them to reverse the decision? I am hard-pressed to believe that Susan G. Komen or her organization have any interest in actually fighting cancer, when many of its corporate partnerships are with cancer-causing companies looking to pinkwash.

  6. Susan Goodman Komen died from breast cancer in 1980 at the age of 36. I get what you are doing but this woman does not have a thing to do with this corporation. They are shady. The woman you are sdressing this to has been dead since I was a small child. Her name is even misspelled. I <3 Anonoymous but this needs some changing.

  7. Thank you for posting something like this. Most of my thoughts on activism are geared toward capitalism and corporate greed. And a large concern on centralized banking. Although I do not research enough lately, as I have been sidetracked, It is good to see someone is bringing things to light, and this is an eye opener people should be aware of. I’m speaking more of the money factor than the organic part of this read. The endorsements and sponsorships are getting ridiculous and as you said in ways “condescending” to the ultimate goal of this organization.

I look forward to the news I get from the internet as it is more of a trust worthy source (depending on the site and people of course) than main news sources that are advertised locally and globally and only report what they think you should know. I don’t agree with everything I read from the Anon source (I’m entitled to that of course, as you are, but would never stand in your way from choosing to believe in anything I may not) but I do thank you for every post that helps me open my eyes and makes it a little more convenient because you do the research for me to go off of. I thank you for what this organization does, and hope for a great difference in the lives of everyone on this planet.

    Regards,
    -Justin

  8. Nancy Brinker is the CEO/Founder of the Susan G Komen For the Cure Foundation. Nancy was Susan’s sister. Susan died in 1980.

  9. Not to be a nit-picker, but “How can you support and sign labelling contracts with well-known carcinogenic products such as PepsiCo?” is just a little extreme. Can you provide a link?

  10. Having many family members who have died from cancer, i support the ridding of the world of monsanto’s gmo’s. However the cancers were here prior to these offenders to our biotop, as a point the video “world without cancer”, done by G. Edward Griffin, is still the best source of how processed food destroys vital molecules from our bodies system, B-17. 1 seed for each pound of body weight will decimate cancer cells.
GHymnema slyvestri will regrow the Pancrease, but this news is not spread, diabetes is the best money cow they have ever come up with. cure it with G.S.

  11. I wouldn’t be too surprised if the cure for cancer was already figured out, and these supposed associations and corporations decided to keep it hidden, so they can milk the public for all they’ve got. wouldn’t surprise me, one single bit.
