Magic Mushrooms used to break Nicotine addiction

The challenge to quit smoking can be intense, and said to be more difficult than quitting some of the harder drugs available. Almost half a million American’s die from smoking related diseases each year, making it the largest preventable cause of death. Millions of dollars of research have been churned through in efforts to find successful ways to kick the habit.

Enter John Hopkins University with their latest findings on the matter. A study has been conducted in a carefully controlled setting where smokes were introduced to magic mushrooms three times over two months. With each introduction, a dose of psilocybin was increased.

The Journal of Psychopharmacology has since published the findings which have shown an 80 percent success in abstinence after six months. No other treatment has had a success rate measured this high, including one of the more effective drugs on the market, varenicline, with a measured success rate of 35 percent.

The study has excited the scientific community, but it isn’t the first time the hallucinogenic agent in magic mushrooms has proven its medical benefits. Psilocybin has also displayed itself to be an effective treatment with those suffering depression, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders, CNN has reported.

“Quitting smoking isn’t a simple biological reaction to psilocybin, as with other medications that directly affect nicotine receptors,” Dr. Matthew Johnson, the study’s lead author and an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, wrote. “When administered after careful preparation and in a therapeutic context, psilocybin can lead to deep reflection about one’s life and spark motivation to change.”

Dr. Johnson continues to research the effects of psilocybin, comparing results to nicotine patches; and also using the MRI scans to “study brain activity in participants.”

    • Please try nicotine patch and chewing gum. It really works and it’s so much easier to breathe after a couple weeks off the ciggies, you will love it. Just set your mind to it and don’t buy or borrow cigarettes. The first few weeks might be depressing so try to get out and walk some trails and find something interesting to do. Take pictures of nature and bugs and mushrooms. Go to new places and meet new people that don’t smoke. You can do this, you really need to do this. Best wishes, Doug

  1. I gave up smoking many times but always start again. I dont know wether it is something inside me or just pure boredom i have used chewing gum and patches. try a combination of both so gum in the morning and patches during the day. always the same result

When i did give up there were a few things i did to fully stop for a peroid.

1 was when I gave up i set a date and stuck to it.
2 cut off ties with anyone who you know that smokes for at least a week.
3 avoid TV as a lot of movies etc show smoking which always gives me the feeling I want one.
4 drink a lot of water
5 get something to keep you hands busy.
6 find something you like doing and spend all your time doing that avoid anything without the outside world. (small smells of smokes always made me ask the person if i can have one)
7 doing exercise while smoking maybe helpful but whenever i did anything it was followed by a smoke so i tryed to avoid it.

the first 3 days are the hardest with the 3rd being extremely hard depending on the time you have smoked.

all of my attempts when i gave up i went cold turkey. But you have to say in your head and have the mindset that you want to give up smoking, otherwise it will always lead back to you smoking.

I seem to stop smoking get back into work and start again never worked out why.

and stopping smoking to take patches and gum to me that’s not the way to do it. if you wanted to diet you wont weenie yourself off food you change your lifestyle and increase your exercise you don’t slow down your food to a point where you body can handle it. someone out there this might help .that’s how i gave up smoking now if i can just not start again this would be full proof.
