While the world is distracted by bathrooms, celebrity gossip, and Beiber’s new haircut, the world is having MAJOR issues that need attention and cooperation to prevent us sleep walking into preventable catastrophes.  Below are just SOME.

MISSOURI:
According to a Missouri emergency plan a fire at the Bridgeton Landfill is closing in on a nuclear waste dump. The fire has been burning uncontrolled for over five years. Clouds of smoke drift into St. Louis leaving it heavily polluted. In December of last year, the EPA said they would install a physical barrier to isolate the nuclear waste, but it could take up to a year to build. Many residents aren’t happy with that timetable, and think the government haven’t done enough to prevent this possible environmental disaster. Apart from the threat of nuclear waste erupting into flames in the near future, there are also two nuclear reactors inside the United States that have been leaking for months.

FLORIDA:
A study by Miami-Dade County concluded that the area’s 40 year old nuclear power plants at Turkey Pointare leaking into Biscayne Bay. This damage is polluting the bay’s surface waters and it’s fragile ecosystem. Recently bay waters near the plant have had a large plume slowly moving towards water wells several miles away that supply clean water to millions of people in Florida. Samples taken during the study found things from radioactive tritium, ammonia, and phosphorous. The scientists conducting the study say the levels of tritium are too low right now to harm people.

“We now know exactly where the pollution is coming from, and we have a tracer that shows it’s in the national park,” said Laura Reynolds, an environmental consultant who is working with the Tropical Audubon Society and the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, which intend to file the lawsuit, according to the Times. “We are worried about the marine life there and the future of Biscayne Bay.”

NEW YORK:
Indian Point nuclear power plant in New York. At this site, there’s been an uncontrollable radioactive flow leaking into the groundwater which leads into the Hudson River, only 25 miles from New York City. The tritium leak is the ninth in just the past year. Thyroid cancer registered the biggest increase, going from 13 percent below the national average to 51 percent above. But apparently things like this don’t make the news anymore, only celebrity gossip, and political distractions. There are some folks out there however, that wish you to be informed of our actual priorities. If you’re one of them, feel free to share this information with others to help raise awareness towards the real issues that need attention.

  1. I like posts like this a lot, and I think you are one of the most socially-engaged groups I’ve ever seen. You do well to point out these kinds of problems and help raise awareness on issues about which people don’t know about.

But you guys really need to start stating your sources. On the internet these days, anybody can spill out loads of bullshit, and if you want to get credibility on your side, stating your sources is a must. Again, I really appreciate your work, I simply hope you guys can remain a step in front of the tide. You know how it goes, better safe than sorry!

    • Well from the comments, people seem to think this is bullshit. I know Missouri is true. I live across the river from this site. Hits KTVI Channel 2 every so often. REMEMBER THE FUKUSHIMA nuclear plant global disaster! No tuna for me!

    • Forget about the sources. Forget about reporting on this kind of stuff. USA is a nation of Zombies. Why do you think the Tv shows are so popular? Let 100 million Zombies die from the extreme greed and corruption of the wealthy, and maybe, just maybe a few of the rest will wake up.
that is another approach. And, though not serious, it may be more likely an outcome.

  2. How in the heck is this not being resolved? The Flint water crisis should have America waking up to our government doesn’t care about it’s citizens. This is far worse, it’s nuclear contamination!

    • Yup as long as the ones in power have clean drinking water and all they need they will let others suffer with no remorse or care

    • I agree with the suggestions above re: citing sources. I am a teacher and would love to use many of your articles for current events activities, but I must stress the importance of students assessing credibility. With solid, clear citing, you will be perceived as more legitimate. It’s simply responsible journalism.

  4. This article has no actual information in it! Who did the samples? When? What’s the national average? How many levels of Tritium? What is Tritium? There’s a lot of information in these 5 sentence paragraphs and I can only open search tabs so fast.

    • That’s today’s need for you. Half assed as usual. No read investigative reporters anymore. Anyone with a computer can be a “journalist” these days.

    • Tritium is a weakly radioactive isotope of hydrogen, if you have a watch with flourecent hands it almost definitely has tritium in it.

The “plume” in Miami is of hypersaline water, not tritium, although there are traces of tritium in it. The phosphorous and ammonia are from the sugar plantations. Ammonia and phosphorous are from fertilizer runoff (the n and p numbers on the label of the bags show the concentration).

  6. “In December of last year, the EPA said they would install a physical barrier to isolate the nuclear waste”
Sounds like The Simpsons predicted another! Or is it predicted programming?

  7. It is a good post. I have seen the same articles on ENENews, with the exception of the Florida one, and it has probably been there, and I missed that day or something. And most people who keep up with radiation problems in this country and beyond, know about the other two incidents.
The Hanford plant, and WiPP Plant may deserve to be thrown in with the three you have listed as well. We live in very hazardous times, and people want to keep their heads in the sand, and pretend that it is not happening. One post-er stated there have been “0” deaths. Yea right. Since it takes 5-20 years for the cancer to take your body over, by then no one thinks about what really caused the cancer, but you die nevertheless.
Radiation bioaccumulates in your body. A little here, a little there, X-ray teeth, cat-scans, MRIs, on and on. A couple more generations from now, when humans no longer resemble humans, I hope someone reads all of the posts and thinks about how things could have been. We have killed humanity, along with the Pacific, Atlantic, and the rest of the oceans.

  8. Just wanted to let the people know who think this is false information… I am a Missouri citizen who lives about 45 miles from St. Louis and as much as I wish it wasn’t true….IT IS VERY MUCH SO. It doesn’t surprise me to hear about the others. If you would spend as much time on the web looking at non important trash and actually use your time for your own saftey as well as your loved onse you would start seeing a pattern of things our government and the nation’s of the world have been doing. It’s pretty much them saying look at my left hand while the right hand is unfolding horrible acts that will effect EVERYONE!! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! AND GET RIGHT WITH YOUR LORD

  9. People in Missouri hate when the government gets involved in anything. Let them clean it up themselves. Ditto for Florida.

  10. The biggest mistake anyone can make before making any claim is seeing whether or not the globe has a history of priors. Like “are FEMA camps designed to initiate genocide”? Well that’s a very ” conspiracy minded” outlook and as we know conspiracy theories are for people in tin foil helmets. However if you look historically humans have a history of genocide and genocide occurs in several countries currently…. So it’s definitely a possibility. How many nuclear disasters have occurred historically and to say the number of causalities is 0??? That’s highly inaccurate.

  11. What many in the StL region are realizing is that the EPA= EveryPollutetsAli. If you don’t think radiation causes cancer & alters genes search #chernobyl + animals

  12. diabolically misleading nd annoying as fuck. ” The tritium leak is the ninth in just the past year. Thyroid cancer registered the biggest increase, going from 13 percent below the national average to 51 percent above.”

SOURCE? this was over the course of 44 YEARS. not to be, as easily would be, confused with the “in just the past year” of the sentence leading into this statement.

BEING CREDIBLE IS PARAMOUNT if we are the people bringing truth and not fear-mongering and patching pieces of facts together to make seemingly bigger, badder facts. to scare people rather than “merely” inform them. you know?

and to the debate of if they should list their sources or if we readers are being lazy in asserting this, you have to be an idiot to even address this. high school, footnotes, pubmed, peer reviewed studies, YES, CITE ALL REFERENCES ALWAYS .

  13. All of you non-believers read the book “We Almost Lost Detroit” by John G. Fuller. It contains a lot of facts regarding these “atomic bombs” just waiting to go off at any time. Plus the stories are interesting about the so-called ‘accidents’ that have occurred at these power plants. Walter Reuther fought to have them put a stop to building them back in the 50’s but big business overrides everything, including the safety of America.

  14. more than enough evidence to require the radio active crap to be gathered up gotten rid of. buy a cheep geiger counter and take a road trip! cruise your local nuclear plant. watch the little flashing light. might show a little light down the tunnel of stupid!

  15. I am a resident of Jupiter, FL. Yes, the story about Biscayne Bay is 100% true. Also, the only ones that will fix these problems are we, the people. I don’t care what political party you side with, they are all corrupt and going through the government channels and passing laws to prevent leaks, contamination, etc. has not done any good. Here in Florida, the citizens of our state **PASSED** a **CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT** (sounds awesome, right?) by an overwhelming majority to dedicate a significant portion of our state property taxes to conserving land for The Everglades Restoration. Why did we do this? Because the Sugar Industry (one of the largest agricultural polluters) has so much control over our state government that we had to force legislators, by law, to fix the horrible water pollution problems. BUT GUESS WHAT? Despite the ** CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT** (known as Amendment 1), hardly any dollars are being used to conserve land or do anything that the law mandates them to do. Instead, our state legislators have simply ignored the law and decided that the money should go to “government expenses” like vehicles, salaries, and other “more important” things. Of course the state is now being sued but we all know how long and tedious court battles can be. Meanwhile, our rivers, beaches, and parts of our oceans will be toxic with algae blooms in the summer. My point to all this: We have to unite as American’s that demand better. Forget your allegiances to parties that don’t give a shit about you. Unite as communities, states, and as Americans to demand better from our representatives. Get involved in your area and volunteer your time and money to fix the problems the government will continue to ignore. Don’t vote for candidates like Clinton and Trump because “one is better than the other.” Garbage is garbage, demand better. Here are sources for all my claims:
