Pepsi Admits That Its Aquafina Bottled Water Is Just Tap Water, Coca-Cola’s Dasani Is Next

On Friday, the Pepsi corporation admitted that its Aquafina bottled water is not purified water or spring water, but simply plain old tap water. The company will now be forced to change the labeling of the brand to reflect that it is just tap water.

Many informed customers choose bottled water because they are concerned about the quality of tap water, which is many times riddled with fluoride and pharmaceuticals. Sadly, we are now learning that in many cases, bottled water is actually not any better than tap water.

Over the years, an advocacy group called, “Corporate Accountability International” has been checking the contents of bottled water and pressuring companies to stop their false advertisement.

Aquafina is actually one of the top selling water brands in the world, and may see a slide in sales as a result of these new findings.

PepsiCo representative Michelle Naughton said in a recent statement that, “If this helps clarify the fact that the water originates from public sources, then it’s a reasonable thing to do.”

The corporate accountability group is now looking to Coca-Cola’s Dasani bottled water for false advertisement. However, Dasani denies that their product is just tap water.

“We don’t believe that consumers are confused about the source of Dasani water. The label clearly states that it is purified water,” Coca-Cola spokeswoman Diana Garza Ciarlante said.

As we reported earlier this year, Major water supplier Niagra Bottling recently announced that one of their springs was contaminated by E-Coli, causing many leading bottled water companies to recall their products

  1. really disappointed in Pepsi co. we will no longer purchase any Pepsi products.. I am sure it will make no difference to them!

  2. No surprise there then,All these poor stupid people paying a 1000 times more for bottled water that wouldn’t pass standards that are set for drinking water through your taps in your house.,Even with recycling efforts, 6 out of 7 plastic bottles consumed in the U.S. are “downcycled”—sent somewhere out of sight and out of mind where, for the next millennia, toxins from degrading plastic containers can leach into watersheds and soil. That’s just not something we need to give to global neighbors and future generations.
Some bottled water is glorified tap water at 10,000 times the cost.
The label on your bottled water may depict a peaceful mountain stream, but that doesn’t mean the water inside is pure and pristine.
Only some bottled water comes from springs or groundwater sources. It turns out that approximately 25% of bottled water is sourced from … the tap. Sure, some companies filter or radiate the tap water with ultraviolet light before selling it to you at several thousand times the cost of municipal tap water. (Examples include Aquafina, Dasani, and many other brands.)
Moreover, studies show that bottled water samples can contain phthalates, mold, microbes, benzene, trihalomethanes, even arsenic. And only recently did the FDA start regulating bottled water for E. Coli, thanks to advocacy by the Natural Resources Defense Council. But what do i know about bottled water..I hold and EPDWA certificate and plumber by trade.

  3. We, the consumers who pay for their products, need to be informed about these liars; however, we also need to know which bottled waters are pure and flouride-free.

  4. It’s the same water that’s inside all Pepsi products. It’s in the pop and the juices. It’s purified tap water meaning it’s been treated and cleaner/safer than any other natural water source. Also, it cost quite a bit more to treat this water and bottle it rather than just bottle up whatever dirt water like these other water companies that offer 24 bottles for like $3-4 are doing.

  5. The source is from a municipality but it is the most highly filtered water you can buy. This can be proven by using a TDS meter that will show theer is nothing besides pure water in that bottle. It’s too bad people are concerned about the wrong things. Good water, stupid article.

  6. We purposely purchase spring water for our safety and health. The amount of Chlorine, and other chemicals in tap water are dangerous, and this absolutely disgusts me. It is a big deal, and a major deceit.
