Saudi Arabia Releases Video Teaching Husbands How to Beat Their Wives [Video]

The national television of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has aired a video, in which a self-styled Islamic family doctor is seen teaching men in the country how to ‘properly’ beat their wives.

The video is believed to have been aired in the country in early February, 2016. The Kingdom’s government is said to have approved the video, and that is why it was given airtime on national television.

After airing the video in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi government released the controversial video in the United States via the Washington DC-based Middle East Media Research Institute, in April 2016. Women activists group describe the video as nothing less than infuriating.

The content of the video features the doctor who is said to specialize in therapy; Khaled Al-Saqaby teaching men how to ‘properly’ beat their wives if their [wives] disobey them.

According to Al-Saqaby, husbands should not immediately attack their wives, but should discipline them ‘properly’ first. He then makes it clear that in marriage, there is nothing like equality, and that men should take charged and rule the home.

In an event where women disobey their husbands, Al-Saqaby teaches in the video that the men should follow the steps below in making sure that the women are corrected.

“The first step is to remind her of your rights and of her duties according to Allah. Then comes the second step – forsaking her in bed. The third step, beating, has to correspond with the necessary Islamic conditions” before taking action. The beating should not be performed with a rod, nor should it be a headband, or a sharp object. Instead, husbands should use a ‘tooth-cleaning twig or with a handkerchief’ to beat their wife. The wife will feel that she was wrong in the way she treated her husband,” says Al-Saqaby.

Ending his controversial teaching, Al-Saqaby says his teaching of how to beat wives is not exhaustive, and that sometimes, men can beat their wives without following his steps when the women go to the extreme by disobeying their husbands.

He also blamed the women for provoking their husbands, expressing shock that some women are ‘stubborn’ to the point that only beatings can bring them to order.

“In addition, sometimes a woman makes a mistake that may lead her husband to beat her. I’m sad to say there are some women who say ‘Go ahead, if you are a real man, beat me’ She provokes them,” he adds in the video.

Critics of the video say, although some of the teachings Al-Saqaby espoused in the video concerning how husbands should treat their wives are found in the Holy Quran, they were used in a context. They accuse Al-Saqaby and the Saudi government of being selective with the verses of the Holy Book in order to satisfy their own interest.

The author Matt Agorist of the Free Thought Project has chronicled some verses from the Quran and Hadith to highlight how a religious text can be used to incite peace or violence; that Islam prohibits or promotes men beating their wives. The Hadith is the record of the sayings and conduct of the Islamic Prophet, Muhammad during his lifetime. The record was recorded by his disciples and those known to be close to him. The Hadith supplements the Holy Quran as a source of Islamic law.

According to Mr Agorist, Al-Saqaby teaching on the subject should not be taken serious because it is full of his own interpretations, in order to serve the interest of the ruling class of the country.

Some women groups have also called for the United States government to condemn the video, as it denigrates womanhood. But neither the State Department, which is responsible for international relations for the country, nor any government official from the White House, has commented on the controversial video.

This is not the first time the United States has turned a blind eye on happenings in Saudi Arabia. Early this year, Saudi Arabia embarked on an exercise of beheading people who speak against the dictatorial policies of the country’s ruling class. 47 people, including a prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr Bakir al-Nimr, were beheaded on January 1st, 2016, for embarking on anti-government activities. This sparked huge tension in the Islamic World. The United States never commented, or issued a statement, on the beheadings.

    • I dont see anything wrong with this video, the guy clearly says dont beat your wife with something that might hurt her. And dont do it out of anger.
      Can you explain the problem?

      • I think Any type off beating is wrong . whether that person has disobeyed someone or not. It is considered abuse and im not just talking about women but in general.Even if someone cheated any type of violence whether it hurts the person physically or not is still wrong . There are other ways to approach the matter in my opinion. I understand people have their own opinions and I respect that but I to am entitled to my own opinion and can speak on it. I do not mean to start any arguments or cause anyone to feel negatively about my opinions.

        • Sorry I should say even using an object against someone is consider abusive from mild to severe..I mean think about it. He mentions beating which lies the first problem right there.Beating-an act of striking with repeated blows so as to injure or damage; also : the injury or damage thus inflicted. Which is violent. Violence-is behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. As a result beating is a type of violence. Violence is considered physical abuse especially when making one to submit or feel very horrible. Now the other ways were fine until he talked about beating. Any beating of any shape or form is not right in my opinion. There are other non harmful physical(not even a mark) options.

  1. If Obama bowed and scraped any more to the insane, terrorist nation of Saudi Arabia, he’d be sucking the floor.

  2. And what about when men behave like assholes?? If Islam is all about fairness and obedience and justice, how to deal with abusive or loser husbands?

    • And there is also a financial penalty that he has to pay her for the type of violence that she receives. The problem is that Wahhabis and some other types of Muslims don’t get their own faith right and are abusive, not because of Islam, but because they want to.

    • What has this to do with Islam? Only because it’s Saudi Arabia ( one of the most horrible countries in the world ) ? Doesn’t make any sense… It is the Saudi Arabian culture. Stop relating this shit to Islam ffs. I don’t relate the more then 2.5 million people killed by the US and Europ in Iraq, afghanistan, syria and so on to Christians / jews aswell. Their country is at fault. Never the religion it self.

      • Umm . I live in saudi arabia , and there is nothing wrong here .
How is it one of the most horrible countries in the world ?
I wouldnt wanna live any where else but here !

That guy is just fucked up and he does not represent islam or saudi arabia in any way or form .
He is probably just a guy that has never been in touch with the outside world and took islam to horrible level .

Based on islam standerds , he is not a muslim , just a stupid extremist .

  3. Hope this doesn’t make the ‘religion of peace’ look bad. I mean more than the institutional terrorism, pedophilia, and bestiality already do.

    • wow, all that goes around in your country and in your house. I guess if you want to beat your wife, do it the American way. The Americans do it like this: They punch the shit out of their wives. They make sure their wives’ faces are bruised beyond recognition. The eyes are closed shut because of the black and blue bruises. Not to forget other sadistic shit the American husbands do to their wives. Finally, it ends when the American husbands killing their wives.

    • I dont see where there is violence in this term?

God has instructed to go through 2 phases before beating the wife, and then with a short, small and thin twig so that it wont hurt. That, my friend, is peace.

Me myself, as a Muslim, wont even lay a finger on my wife. Even if I am permitted to do so by God.

    • Ok first off , yes there is pedophilia in islam BUT
intitutional terrorism is NOT islamic , anything that involves hurting another person is “haram” (forbidden) in islam .
So all terrorists that claim to be islamic are actually not , they just give themselfes that title , even though the quran says they are not .

And where the fuck did you get beastiality from ? And how the fuck did you relate it to islam ? Just shows how ignorant you are about all of this .

Stop talking out your ass and go follow actual sources like reading the quran , And not believing a false paragraph on the internet .

      • Correction , sorry i thought pedophilia meant homophobia .
So there is homophobia in islam but NOT pedophilia .
I have no clue where you got that from !

  4. The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) is a not for profit press monitoring and analysis organization with headquarters in Washington, DC. MEMRI publishes and distributes free English language translations of Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Pashto, and Turkish media reports.

Brian Whitaker, the Middle East editor for The Guardian newspaper at the time, wrote in a public email debate with Carmon in 2003, that his problem with MEMRI was that it “poses as a research institute when it’s basically a propaganda operation”.[2]

Earlier, Whitaker had charged that MEMRI’s role was to “further the political agenda of Israel.” and that MEMRI’s website does not mention Carmon’s employment for Israeli intelligence, or Meyrav Wurmser’s political stance, which he described as an “extreme brand of Zionism”.[3] Carmon responded to this by stating that his employment history is not a secret and was not political, as he served under opposing administrations of the Israeli government and that perhaps the issue was that he was Israeli: “If your complaint is that I am Israeli, then please say so.” Carmon also questioned Whitaker’s own biases, wondering if Whitaker’s is biased in favor of Arabs—as his website on the Middle East is named “Al-Bab” (“The Gateway” in Arabic)—stating: “I wonder how you would judge an editor whose website was called “Ha-Sha-ar” (“The Gateway” in Hebrew)?[4]

Norman Finkelstein has described MEMRI as “a main arm of Israeli propaganda”. In 2006, Finkelstein accused MEMRI of editing a television interview he gave in Lebanon in order to falsely impute that he was a Holocaust denier. In an interview with the newspaper In Focus in 2007, he said MEMRI uses “the same sort of propaganda techniques as the Nazis” and “take[s] things out of context in order to do personal and political harm to people they don’t like”.[5]

  6. OMG! What the hell is wrong with these people. I cannot believe that they are still in the stone ages. If I were one of the wives I would have a baseball bat close at all times. Course then again I would not be stupid enough to marry one of those barbaric assholes.

  7. Everything these clowns do is odd. I don’t get it. I mean, if someone beats their wife now and there not muzloom is it legal if they say that they are? Oooooh… Got’em!

  8. Mother fcker I wish a dumb ass ngga would try & and discipline me! He’d end up with that tooth cleaner in his ass or thru.his heart! Talking bout he committed suicide! I thought the USA was dumb!

  9. The U.S. govt. also looks the other way for Abdullah’s four daughters held in captivity and nearly starved for 15 years. Even after his death, they are either still in captivity or dead by now.

  10. The U.S. government has not commented because they give light sentences to pedophiles, rapists, socially retarded folk that commit incest, and those that commit domestic violence. Especially if they are Caucasian and hire an expensive, empathetic, slime ball criminal attorney.

  11. “Unfortunatley some woman want to be treated equally… this is a grave problem.” This is oppression, and anyone supporting the islamic state and their disgusting states shouldn’t be allowed in America. Despite there being two different cultures, women and men should have equal rights.

  12. People there are aren’t as evolved as us. He is telling men to stop beating women with big sticks and other harmful stuff. He pulled out a tooth brush as an example “use this instead if u are going to beat here”. Not to beat here in public or in front of the kids. Instead of cheating on her. Give here space and still support here. This is actually a big step for them as they are still learning to be humane. Their world is old and there still learning.
This video will make a difference. Men will approach there woman in a more humane way in Saudi I support this video as the situation is worse. And I hope after every one uses that stick they call a toothbrush. Woman wont be abused anymore

  13. I write content for websites. Recently, I wrote a site for a start-up offering driving services like Uber. When I researched the driving practices in SA, the news was reporting the struggle Saudi women were having in getting to and from work bc they are not allowed to drive a car alone. According to law, they must have a male chaperone in the car. Also, they are not allowed to ride in cars with men they are not related to. This means they are walking if their male relatives can’t ride with them or drive them to work. They can’t use the driving services.

If SA won’t even let its women drive without a man, it won’t take them seriously on anything else, including domestic violence.

  14. i don’t think anyone in the comments section actually watched the video, just read the title and proceeded to ape shit post

  15. Here’s my two sense, a toothpick or a handkerchief, to “Beat the wife”. thats , to me not that bad really vs the stick. I mean its really kinda flirty and playful… offensive and intriguing vs painful and devastating… I imagine if my wife came and beat me with a toothpick or handkerchief at first i’d be like wtf but i think id realize that while she may be upset she isnt hurting me. and the feeling of a brushing sensation vs. all out fist to cuff aggression. I think my mind would be more open to her…

I gotta say this until 2001 9/11 noone outside of the military in the middle east even knew what an arab was as a majority, seems like everyone is an expert without researching anything further than a title.

  16. Some have very clearly understood the message what Isam conveys whereas some are just commenting without understanding, pls understand islam doesn’t provoke violence any where be it a country or home Islam emphasis only on Peace, Request my brothers and sisters pls clearly understand the message conveyed , pls try to understand Islam instead of merely misunderstanding the message in a wrong way creating commotion. May Almighty guide us all in the right path

  17. what a fucking shit head….. i bet allah never said: “beat your wife”…

i get soooo sad and angry by this shit… we are living in the 21Th century… how can it be that there are still so many primitive cultures….
i don’t wan’t offend any culture but beating people to death or trowing stones at them as punishment… i mean what is this?
but it’s our own fault… we made earth what it is…we made all of this…
war… rich and poor… mega-concerns… we could let this all behind us… but humans are to stupid…and to greedy…
humanity could be so much more… 🙁

  18. well, stone-age behaviour toward women, extreme self-righteousness and terrorism are seen…must be moderated and modernised…..phase of denial is there; and all must know that “there can be no smoke without a fire”
