Schoolboy Saves Dangling Dog Trying To Escape A Locked Hot Van

A 13-year-old schoolboy from Greater Manchester is being praised for saving the life of a dog – a large Dogue de Bordeaux named Boo – that had been dangling by its lead from a van window.

Bradley was walking home from nearby Parrenthorn High School at around 4pm when the distressed French mastiff smashed one of the van’s windows and jumped out. The desperate dog tried to escape the hot van but was left hanging by his lead, on the brink of death.

When Bradley noticed the broken glass and a dog leaping from the window, he rushed to help the pooch, managed to unhook his collar, and gently stroked the canine back to consciousness. The teenager then waited for 15 minutes for the dog’s owner to return.

Bradley recounts saving Boo:

“When I first saw the dog, I thought that the window was partially down but there was glass on the floor and he had his front paws out towards us. Me and my friends waited for five minutes for the owner to come back to the van but the dog ran up and jumped through the window and started to hang himself. I lifted him up slightly so he would stop hanging himself then I managed to unpick the buckle on the lead and managed to save him. I waited for 15 minutes for the owner to come back and she thanked me for saving him then I helped her sweep up the glass.”

Bradley, who owns a Staffordshire bull terrier named Keyser, insists that his act of bravery was the least that he would expect from others if his own dog was in peril. He told the Manchester Evening News: “I have dogs myself; I would hope someone would do that for me and help my dog. I was a bit scared, but as long as the dog was ok.”

Images of Bradley’s quick-thinking act were shared on Facebook by passer-by Alenka Kilmas, who was walking her daughter home from school. She said: “It was a very big dog; I think it was bigger than the schoolboy. It was bleeding from its feet. I saw the owner afterwards and she was very grateful.”

  1. Why do people keep insisting on leaving dogs in hot cars? Have they not heard any of the well publicized info year after year?

  2. Owner should be charged with animal cruelty, as should all dog owners who leave dogs in this situation and are found out!

  3. That stupid bloody dog owner should be charged, and at the very least, heavily fined. Gaol time would be a stronger lesson, because then she would know what it is like to be confined in a place that you find unbearable to be in! So many dog owners and so few of those with any understanding of dogs. She isn’t the only one I would like to see imprisoned.
