A Small $9 Computer That May Do Wonders

A small computer, no larger than the size of your credit card or debit card, has been developed in California and is available for just $9 dollars. The small nine dollar computer is capable of doing almost anything the average family Personal Computer is expected to do, such as surfing, programming and provides entertainment.

This tiny device has raised a lot more than $2.750.000 on Kickstarter. That is thirty times more than the amount the developers asked for. The device is known as CHIP, and it will fit in your front pocket while being an entirely dominant Linux technology. Let us talk a bit about it main hardware specifications. It comes with a one gigahertz processor, five hundred and twelve megabytes of RAM and four gigabytes of memory, as well as performs most of the tasks required for work/school. The developers requested fifty thousand dollars at Kickstarter; the CHIP group has already raised over two million dollars, from more than 39560 backers – as of when I was working on this article.

If a person wants the finest PC in terms of excellence and design – they are likely to go for Apple goods,” said Brad Jones, a tech reviewer.

The question is, since CHIP is just a block of different components and does not have a screen of it’s own, how does one get the hardware going on any screen, CTR’s, flat screens or your old TV? Questions concerning the device’s control system have also been raised, since the device lacks a mouse or a keyboard. Well, CHIP has components that look familiar to most computer owners: It has Bluetooth and WiFi components, and with a stock installed internet browser, CHIP is ready for web browsing. The MIDI part will also bring your files and music to life when connected to an external audio system. It may even become a universally used portable PC when used with the Pocket CHIP add-ons such as a four point three inch touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, and a good four plus hours of battery life. However, don’t get all excited because that costs another forty dollars.

For instance if someone wants something much more profitable and worthwhile to get the job done. His or her choice should be an item similar to CHIP, and these types of computers would come to be very much prominent with individuals who need a PC for computing,” Jones predicted.

This small portable machine is being advertised as an entirely open source machine which is compatible with dozens of commonly used and stock installed applications, as well as a lot of free software from the open source community. CHIP is not the only tiny computer in existence, there are also other equivalent super cheap computer systems already in existence, such Raspberry Pi. However, CHIP is far lower in price and claims to trump the opponents in efficiency and adaptiveness.

Indeed, the enthusiasm of the Kickstarter contributors is hardly surprising; having a tiny computer system capable of preforming our basic computer requirements at a very low cost, is undoubtedly very interesting.

Tech giants such as Microsoft and Apple are likely to soon recognize the advantages of this scheme; they may even possibly try to follow the trend and create software or operating systems for such machines.

Should they are run their software on it – it is essentially going to become a Microsoft computer system, even if Microsoft do not produce it, mainly because these people are the ones who are controlling the software and they make men and women use their products,” Jones said. “Apple might release their designs of operation systems or OS for such small personal computers to corner that market for their operating system interests.

With CHIP soon to be available to the public, we hope that more people are able to utilize the technologies available to us today. As technology continues to get compact and economical, even more people will learn to code and chop together their concepts and ideas.
