US Federal Government Confirms: Marijuana Kills Certain Cancer Cells And Could Cure Brain Tumors

29

It is easy to say that marijuana is close to being legalized by the United States Federal Government. As it stands, marijuana is classified as a Schedule I drug by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This means that marijuana is one of the most strictly regulated drugs, apparently because it is considered to have “no medicinal value” to the public.

But it has now emerged that the US federal government has admitted that marijuana may in fact serve as a useful treatment for brain tumors, one of the  most dangerous type of cancers. Brain tumors can occur at any age, and the exact cause of brain tumors is not clear to researchers. The most common symptoms of brain tumors include headaches, numbness or tingling in the arms or legs, seizures, memory problems, mood and personality changes, balance and walking problems, nausea and vomiting, changes in speech, vision, or hearing.

This new stand by the Federal Government is said to be based on a major study published in November 2014 by researchers at the St. George’s University of London, that found that marijuana can be an effective drug to fight brain tumors. The National Institute on Drug Abuse has said in its new revised guidelines that “recent animal studies have shown that marijuana can kill certain cancer cells and reduce the size of others. Evidence from one animal study suggests that extracts from whole-plant marijuana can shrink one of the most serious types of brain tumors. Research in mice showed that these extracts, when used with radiation, increased the cancer-killing effects of the radiation”.

One of the lead researchers of the study, who made the discovery, explained that it is refreshing news that the US government is taking a new stand on marijuana.

Meanwhile, the study has triggered many well-respected personalities across the US to publicly speak their mind about marijuana. In February this year, the new US’s Surgeon General, Dr Vivek Murthy, said that he is optimistic that the US government will stick to its current position on marijuana so that more research can be carried out to fully explore the drug’s benefits, for the benefit of all people.

“We have to see what the science tells us about the efficacy of marijuana. We have some preliminary data that for certain medical conditions and symptoms, marijuana can be helpful. We have to use that data to drive policy-making,” he told CBS This Morning show in an interview.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has also adjusted its official position on marijuana and called for the government to drop its Schedule I status in order to facilitate more research on its effects.

A bill was also recently introduced in the Senate by some senators- Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D.-N.Y.) that would reclassify marijuana as a Schedule II drug, to allow exploration of its medical benefits.

This means that the hard-line stand on marijuana is gradually becoming weakened. The government’s acknowledgement of the study augurs well for advocates for medical marijuana usage. The drug’s Schedule I classification has stifled scientific inquiry into the effects of marijuana (both good and bad) and has resulted in a catch-22: Marijuana is labeled Schedule I because it’s assumed to have no medicinal benefits, but that prevents people from figuring out if it has medical benefits, which then causes it to continue to be classified as a Schedule I drug….

Critics say that because it is labeled as Schedule I, scientists generally cannot acquire funding from anywhere to determine if it has any medicinal benefits to human beings.

Hopefully, with the advent of this revelation, and the initiative taken by some lawmakers to change the traditional stand on marijuana, companies and individuals who can afford to will be willing to sponsor new research into marijuana to determine its efficacy. The government too should make a concerted effort to also sanction in-depth research, to clear the air for the usage of the drug in a well-regulated manner for the benefit of the entire world. After all, if we can turn a “deadly poison” into a boon to the society, why should we not do it?

    • I must admit they are pretty upside down over many things like Money, Finance, War, family life and children, manufacturing, global relations, their citizenry, other countries’ s citizenry, the environment, etc.

  1. marijuana was never a deadly poison, Mr. Amando Flavio, you should know that has always been beneficial to human health, and the only thing that harms human health are your incongluencias to speak, remember that CO2 is not harmful to the planet, and if you do not understand science better let the experts opinions reviews and news, watch you to talk that is so disrespectful misinform the human population.

  2. haha, wish this was true, but all it’s doing is creating faulsdic hope for someone who has never tried it! Millions of people who have been smoking weed for fifty years or more, have never had such results! This article only reaffirms what I’ve long believed, that most people are just plain dumb!!!!

    • FALSE HOPE?! Chuck Weiss, you need to stick to what you know because you surely know nothing about this subject. I have Oral Squamous-cell Carcinoma, which for you, since you are so intelligent, is skin cancer on/in my mouth. Specifically in my tongue. I have been taking what is called “Phoenix Tears” for four months and I can tell you that the tumor in my tongue is shrinking!

Many people that use this life saving substance do NOT SMOKE IT, they injest the resins in a concentrated pill.

You stated “haha, wish this was true”. I do not believe you! If you truly “wished” it were true you wouldn’t be trolling here and causing stress to people that can ill-afford to increase their stress-load.

So do everyone here a favor and go away!

      • Anectdotal evidence isn’t evidence although it may lead to hypothesis that need to be tested. Ever heard of the placebo effect or confirmation bias? This is why the best studies are double-blind placebo controlled trials. Nope a meta analysis of the available research on MJ showed many preliminary studies. In some cases MJ extracts decreased cancer, in some it increased it. If you think MJ cures multiple types of disparate cancers then it’s YOU who don’t understand the subject.

        • When you can explain away the 100’s of thousands of “Anecdotal” people cured by this plant, I’ll listen to YOU. But I have been thru many of the studies the fed has posted in PubMed, and let me tell you, they have results: repeatable, verifiable results, along with double blind studies, that SHOW results on everything from skin cancers, to Gliomas, to prostate and breast cancer. So, take a long walk off of a short pier, for us, and keep you opinion in circles where there are people who will listen to you, because it ain’t HERE.

        • Are you kidding me? You are FRAUD. If Cannabinoids have no proven benefits, how come FDA approved 10 different medications , made of artificial molecules copied from Cannabis? . Prof. Meshulam, from Israel, studied it for 30 years, and claims the natural form is many times more effective, because of the variety of molecules of different structure synthetically active. Isolating a single compound, and testing it (for the purpose of profit!)is “scientific” practice, but impractical for the healing arts. Medicine is NOT “scientific”, it is abused by pseudo science. It ought to be unconstitutional to allow the corrupt legislators to decide the legality of growing a natural plant. Let’s say that when YOU get cancer, I HOPE you take chemo. I will take a load of natural and physical treatments, se who last longer, and you KNOW the answer! (READ Prof. Hardin Jones, UC Berkley, on this topic..).

      • Since science has proven that marijuana helps cure many illnesses perhaps it is time that the government made it legal nation wide and stop saying that it is harmful and that it should be outlawed. Just a thought

    • Just plain dumb is thinking that smoking marijuana holds medical benefits. Do your fricken research bud. Pretty much every study done using marijuana is by ingesting it. Do your homework cool guy

    • Exactly. But don’t expect the people who think MJ cures everything to believe it. They’ll chalk it up to a government conspiracy then continue to do what they want. Pot hasn’t shown an increased risk to CAUSE cancer (esophageal, lung and GI) which is great but that’s a far cry from CURING cancer. If pot does have a beneficial effect on cancer it will be for a specific type unless MJ is unlike every other substance in the World.

  3. I personally believe Sativas gave us the creativity to get out of Africa. And that was a good idea. Never mind the bone marrow theory of evolution. There was plenty more protein available no effort necessary off a lion kill pushed away with flames. Understand who may….

  4. Victor, you are the illiterate one on here. “Deadly poison”….Note the quotations, which symbolize sarcasm. He was not being serious about it being a deadly poison. But as they say, can’t cure stupid.

  5. Victor,
He was very obviously being sarcastic when he referred to it as a deadly poison. Hence the quotation marks. The vast majority of the world views it as a deadly poison and he was playing off of that. Perhaps you should get a better grasp of the multiple uses of quotation marks in writing before making such a bold stab at his article.

  6. This is only a partial study of animals, though extracts of the drug can shrink some cancers in others it makes them grow,as of yet doseage rates are problematic.
Smoking cannabis will not help in the cures of any cancers and the side effects of smoking cannabis will cause major health problems.

  7. I have Nero endocrine carcinoma’s cancer in my liver that they can’t take out and I vaporize cannabis. Not just any marijuana, medical marijuana that I buy from a dispencery and it has helped me greatly with things like nausea, pain, anxiety, depression, and other simptionrelated to my cancer. Im Canadian I wish our government would do the same.

  8. I’ve come to believe that prohibition of marijuana is a premise built on a tissue of lies: Concern For Public Safety. Our new laws save hundreds of lives every year, on our highways alone. In November of 2011 a study at the University of Colorado found that, in the thirteen states that decriminalized marijuana between 1990 and 2009, traffic fatalities have dropped by nearly nine percent—now nearly ten percent in Michigan–while sales of beer went flat by five percent. No wonder Big Alcohol opposes it. Ambitious, unprincipled, profit-driven undertakers might be tempted too.

In 2012 a study released by 4AutoinsuranceQuote revealed that marijuana users are safer drivers than non-marijuana users, as “the only significant effect that marijuana has on operating a motor vehicle is slower driving”, which “is arguably a positive thing”. Despite occasional accidents, eagerly reported by police-blotter ‘journalists’ as ‘marijuana-related’, a mix of substances was often involved. Alcohol, most likely, and/or prescription drugs, nicotine, caffeine, meth, cocaine, heroin, and a trace of the marijuana passed at a party last week. However, on the whole, as revealed in big-time, insurance-industry stats, within the broad swath of mature, experienced consumers, slower and more cautious driving shows up in significant numbers. A recent Federal study has reached the same conclusion. And legalization should improve those numbers further.

No one has ever died from an overdose of marijuana. It’s the most benign ‘substance’ in history. And most people–and particularly patients who medicate with marijuana–use it in place of prescription drugs or alcohol.

Marijuana has many benefits, most of which are under-reported or never mentioned in American newspapers. Research at the University of Saskatchewan indicates that, unlike alcohol, cocaine, heroin, or Nancy (“Just say, ‘No!’”) Reagan’s beloved nicotine, marijuana is a neuro-protectant which actually encourages brain-cell growth. Research in Spain (the Guzman study) and other countries has discovered that it also has tumor-shrinking, anti-carcinogenic properties. These were confirmed by the 30-year Tashkin population study at UCLA.

Drugs are man-made, cooked up in labs, for the sake of patents and the profits gained by them. Often useful, but typically burdened with cautionary notes and lists of side effects as long as one’s arm. ‘The works of Man are flawed.’

Marijuana is a medicinal herb, the most benign and versatile in history. “Cannabis” in Latin, and “kaneh bosm” in the old Hebrew scrolls, quite literally the Biblical Tree of Life, used by early Christians to treat everything from skin diseases to deep pain and despair. The very name, “Christ” translates as “the anointed one”. Well then, anointed with what? It’s a fair question. And it wasn’t holy water, friends. Holy water came into wide use in the Middle Ages. In Biblical times it was used by a few tribes of Greek pagans. But Christ was neither Greek nor pagan.

Medicinal oil, for the Prince of Peace. A formula from the Biblical era has been rediscovered. It specifies a strong dose of oil from kaneh bosom, ‘the fragrant cane’ of a dozen uses: ink, paper, rope, nutrition. . . . It was clothing on their backs and incense in their temples. And a ‘skinful’ of medicinal oil could certainly calm one’s nerves, imparting a sense of benevolence and connection with all living things. No wonder that the ‘anointed one’ could gain a spark, an insight, a sense of the divine, and the confidence to convey those feelings to friends and neighbors.

I am appalled at the number of ‘Christian’ politicians, prosecutors, and police who pose on church steps or kneeling in prayer on their campaign trails, but cannot or will not face the scientific or the historical truths about cannabis, Medicinal Herb Number One, safe and effective for thousands of years, and celebrated by most of the world’s major religions.

    • Thank you for the information William. For most of us, apart from the potential loss of profit by the pharmaceutical companies, it is difficult to imagine why TPTB object to its use. Could it be perhaps that the frame of mind it sometimes induces in its users, runs contrary in some other way to their own intentions and interests?

  9. Besides who has been or is suffering from cancer, but… Folks, there is no reason to get so mad about. Just go to ‘patents.google.com’, search word: ‘cannabinoid’ and start scrolling…. Pretty sure most of you will find the (correct) answers to any of your doubts and/or questions.
