20 Intense Photos: From London To Japan, How Children Spend Their Lunch Time

Photographer James Mollison, after portraying children from all over the world in their bedrooms surrounded by their toys and possessions in his book Where Children Sleep, has once again highlighted the peculiarities of different cultures with his new book, Playground.

Inspired by his own memories of playing during school breaks, the Kenyan-born photographer has illustrated the different ways childhood’s various joys and inequalities play out according to where his young subjects live. Various scenes of laughter, tears, and games demonstrate the intense experiences which happen on the playground. With photographs from rich and poor schools, in countries including Argentina, Bhutan, Bolivia, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Nepal, Norway, Sierra Leone, the United Kingdom and the USA, Mollison also provides access to issues of global diversity and inequality.
