24-Year-Old Testing Gun Cleaning Kit Accidentally Shoots 2-Year Old Niece In Face

11

A two-year-old girl was accidentally shot in the face on Christmas day at her home near Molalla by her uncle who was cleaning a handgun from a gun cleaning kit he received as a gift for Christmas when it accidentally fired. According to Sgt. Nathan Thompson with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Luke Andrew Bowman pulled the trigger on the handgun and there was a live round in the chamber. The bullet went through a coffee cup then into the cheek of the child, and out the other.

While no criminal charges were filed against the toddler’s irresponsible uncle, the little girl was flown to Oregon Health & Science University hospital in Portland where she underwent a life-saving surgery.

  1. As a VERY pro gun second amendment believing person, I can tell you exactly why this TRAGETY happened. The uncle is a fucking idiot! You NEVER put you’re finger on the trigger unless you intend on firing the weapon. And, you always treat EVERY firearm as if it were loaded. Did I mention that the uncle is a FUCKING IDIOT!?!?!?!

    • I carry and handgun, i’m a Democrat, a liberal, a veteran and a father. I trust myself to carry a weapon and handle a weapon and I have taken precautions for the unexpected occasion of my daughter maybe getting ahold of it so I worry not. I feel safer knowing I can protect myself if something happens rather than be a victim, I signed up for classes that teach you and prepare you for a gunfight so i’m not the good guy that gets shot cause he doesn’t know what he is doing if I get put in a situation. A gun can be owned and carried safely, it all depends on who is carrying the gun, I lugged around an assault rifle everywhere I went in the Army when deployed and training and I never forgot it, or had a mishap. Now I don’t believe anyone should be able to buy or carry a weapon, I think there should be stricter background checks and selling requirements as well as a license and special training if you want to carry one on you. The worst thing is someone who doesn’t know how to handle a weapon properly trying to take down someone who does, they usually get themselves hurt or another innocent person hurt. All persons carrying open or concealed should have a license and so many hours of physical training as well as classroom training and a test on gun laws. If you put a gun in the right hands it is absolutely safe and a asset to the community especially with lone wolf attacks occurring. For you to sit here and say all people who carry guns are short on brains is a pretty unintelligent statement so I will say that you are short on brains not I
