An Exercise In Understanding Prejudice

Prejudice (noun):
1. An unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.
2. Any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.
3. Unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding an ethnic, racial, social, or religious group.
4. Such attitudes considered collectively: The war against prejudice is never-ending.
5. Damage or injury; detriment: A law that operated to the prejudice of the majority

The video below is a demonstration in how personal prejudices manifest in real world decision making. Both men have the rights to be doing what they are doing. However the white male is met almost without incident where as the black male gets his right violated. Both men had the same right and were performing the exact same demonstration. The only difference comes in personal prejudices held not just in the police force, but greater society as well. Understand Bias’ and Prejudices’ are very real. They exist within all of us. When you start thinking about what prejudices you may hold you can make better choices on how not to act that way in the future.

  1. This, however true to an an extent, is race baiting. I guarantee that if I walked down the the street with an AR on my shoulder, the cops would put me throught the same paces, and I live in Ohio where open carry is legal.

I appreciate Anonymous, and everything they do, but come on man.

    • I agree man, and while it is true to an extent. It also depends on the cop, and the place of incident. Not every cop reacts the same, even under the guidelines they’re supposed to follow. Therefore, it is a biased experiment.

  2. The two locations were not the same, the cameras were following the second person where they were beside and clearly filming the first. These could easily alter the outcome. This should be done many times for each to create a baseline, with each pair in the same location with hidden cameras.
This would be a true enlightening experiment.

  3. Aaron, justsumguy and miket, quit making excuses. I counted at least 5 cop cars. That is very clear that there are different rules. Flat out prejudice.

  4. lol yea, you can say all you want about how this is “race baiting.” But you will never understand, till you live the day and the life of another race in this position. Countless colleges have classes regarding “white privilege” for a reason. Think this video is some kind of sham? Take 5 seconds to search youtube for white vs black. But let me guess, those videos are fake too! lol cops are great people that preach equality and never hurt anyone? lol Funny how a guy can shoot up an entire movie theater, set a bomb trap in his own house, tell police about it and still live to tell about it. Meanwhile little Jarome will get shot over loose ciggs.

    • They wouldn’t do that because either of these instances would happen to both of them and it would be “racist” anymore. The only difference between these two is one cop knew the law where the others didn’t.

  5. The white boy is dressed in a polo, while the black guy is all in black. And its two different cops. But lets be real, black guys catch the brunt of police, and i’m VERY sure some of them are only on the force to be as prejudiced as they want to. Take EVERY single video of extreme cops this year so far, is there one white boy? I can think of ONE the homeless guy (unarmed) that got put on blast mode, than the cop yelled “booyaa” afterward.

    • I think you need to take 5 minutes on youtube and search “cops pulling guns on open carry”. Tell me how many white people you see there. How many cops involving blacks have I seen? I saw a ton of them. Do you want to know why that is? Because every single time one of them do something they cry racism to get out of it and it hits national headlines. What happened when a black guy broke into a white family’s house and killed their entire family but the one little girl that got away? Local news, that’s it. No national headlines, no riots, NOTHING. Oh, but what happened to a little girl who told the judge she was scared of black people because one broke into the house she lived in in the middle of the night? She was called racist. For being scared of something that happened. Grow a brain.

  6. I’m a white American who worked in China and was made aware very quickly that I was not welcomed there. My coworkers couldn’t get rid of me but they certainly didn’t hide how they felt about me being there. Never hesitated to tell me everything that was wrong with the USA and I remember thinking to myself that this is probably what it feels like to be black for a lot of black people. Not everyone was unpleasant to me, but I always felt like people were looking down on me, thought I was less deserving, or just not welcome.

Even knowing that this might be what others are feeling back in my own country, I couldn’t wait to get back to America where I knew I would not feel “second class”. This is all while knowing that many people in this country DO feel second class even though they haven’t done anything to deserve that except be born to one set of parents as opposed to another. Even in China I could tell myself that what they thought didn’t matter, that I was my own man, even that I was better than them. Never the less, I found myself infuriated at times for the way I was treated.

I still don’t think I can truly appreciate what it’s like to be black in America, but I have tasted prejudice and racism and it’s a terrible thing to experience.

  7. I wish the dumb fucks at “Anonymous” would grow brains. How is this “racist” when there are COUNTLESS and I mean COUNTLESS open carry videos that white people have done and the SAME EXACT THING that happened to the black guy in this video happened to them? Go on dumb fucks. Explain to me how it’s any different. You posted the definition of racism. So go ahead and use your BRAIN and apply it to this post. What’s wrong you can’t? Shame isn’t it? The ONLY way this would have been actual racism, is if it were the same exact cop in both instances. Was it? No, didn’t think so. Stop crying fucking racism about EVERYTHING and grow a brain.

  8. First, I feel like we as a country need to more clearly define gun laws. I like owning a gun, but I don’t feel that someone should be able to walk around in public with an assault rifle, or any rifle to that matter. There is absolutely no use case that defends a right to be able to carry a rifle around in public like that. Now a hand gun is a totally different case.

I’m calling bullshit. If you’re going to conduct an experiment like this, then you need many more rounds of testing than just two. I would expect the latter of the two to happen most of the time, if not then all of the time. And the lady with the camera behind the black guy should be embarrassed she put her unborn baby in danger. Is this not craziness to anyone else??

The office in the first test should be suspended. WTF is “Sir, why are you carrying around an AR-15?” Really? What kind of question is that?

So let’s say I get some modeling clay and stick some colored wires in it with an LED timer and strap it all together with electrical tape. I then go walking around with it down a busy street as a “social experiment” as I record everything with my phone. Then an officer notices me, and I get a gun pointed at me. Duh.

  9. Its the few extreme racist blacks that cause the many problems for all law abiding black people in America. The racist ones call for the killing of police and all white people. So explain how cops are suppose to react to these situations. It’s not that they want to react this way but when you go around saying crap like that. I wouldn’t expect anything less than to make sure the person carrying the weapon is proned out until other cops are these to assist the one by himself. Then disarming him and going on from there. Though its your choice on how you want to look at it. That’s just my two cents.
