It has emerged that the technology giant, Apple, may take a legal action against a man from New York State who has uploaded videos on YouTube on how to repair MacBook, iPhone, and other Apple devices.

The man, named Louis Rossmann, is a repair specialist who has thoroughly taught his followers on YouTube how to repair Apple devices for free. He owns an electronic repair shop in New York. In his video on YouTube on how to repair Apple stuffs, he offers a unique angle to viewers that includes engineering instruction with philosophy thrown in for good measure.

According to media reports, a bill known as ‘Right To Repair Bill’ was introduced in the state of New York to make it easier for Smartphone and laptop owners to fix their broken devices by forcing technology manufacturers like Apple, and others, to release electronic parts and design manuals to independent repair shops. Right-to-Repair activists have been fighting to get this bill passed into law; to help users repair their broken devices without buying new ones. Tech Worm reports that the bill was supposed to come up for vote in June 2016, but major technology manufacturers, including Apple, managed to get the bill squashed at the committee stage before it reached the floor for a vote.

It is believed technology giants like Apple, Cisco and Xerox are strongly against users of their devices having access to spare parts for self-repairs, when they breakdown. The companies want users to buy new devices to boost their sales revenue.

After the failure of the Repair To Repair Bill, Mr Rossmann turned to YouTube to help users repair their devices for free. However, it appears Apple has been following Rossmann’s media platform, and are now planning to take legal action to stop him.

Although there has been no official confirmation of the lawsuit against Rossmann from Apple, a video posted by Rossmann gives a clue about what the technology company is planning to do.

In the video Rossmann posted, he did not categorically state that Apple is considering shutting down his YouTube channel or suing him. However, he urges his fans and subscribers to download the How-to-Repair videos, and upload them again on their own channels, making it difficult for the company to remove his works from the Internet completely.

The clue of a possible lawsuit against Rossmann was detected when he said in a video that he is not allowed to share what is going on between him and Apple. Below are the specific stages in the video where Rossmann alludes to hidden threats against sharing the free tutorials on YouTube:

@6:52– Louis informs viewers that they can download YouTube videos.

@10:06 – Rossmann shares that he is going to have to fight from this point onward.

On many technology forums like Reddit, Mac Kung Fu,  and 9to5Mac, Rossmann’s post about the imminent threat from Apple has become the talking point. Many of Rossmann’s followers have expressed strong support for him, urging him to never give up.
