What kind of a father Glen Hochman was who shot his two daughters – Alissa, 18, and Deanna, 13 – in the head while they were asleep and left the eldest daughter Samantha and wife Anamarie, 50, insolvent for life, before killing his three family dogs and self?
52-year-old retired Westchester police officer Glen was plotting the murder-revenge-suicide for weeks. He wanted Anamarie, who sought separation, to suffer all her life so he filed retirement papers three weeks prior to the massacre and checked the zero option on their pension ensuring she was left destitute. In his six-page long suicide note, he insulted her more by challenging Anamarie to be financially responsible after his evil deed and instructing her on how to get things in order for the family after his death.
The day before the murders, Anamarie had gone to the cops to report a heated verbal dispute she had with Glen over an $80 cellphone bill but cops didn’t take any action as they thought “it was common to with people with domestic issues to create a paper trail”. Anamarie then left for Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut with Samantha, and a friend.
Samantha’s heartbreaking letter to Alissa was read by a family friend at the joint funeral for the sisters attended by over 500 people. She wrote:
“I’m angry you don’t get the chance to go to prom, spring break, graduation or college. I’m angry that you don’t get the chance to get married or have children. I’m angry your beautiful life was cut short. I truly regret the times we would argue over the most pointless things. I look back now and say, ‘Why in the world would we waste our time, precious time, fighting?’ I want you to know no matter how much we yelled and screamed at each other, I always loved you. As an older sister I hope that you idolized me, but the truth is, I idolized you. It sickens me to know I will not have the chance to see you grow. This tragedy has broken me. I will never be the same”.
Referring to her youngest daughter, Deanna, in her tribute to her children, also read by a family friend, the mother wrote:
“I love that we could just look at each other from across the room and just crack each other up. I’m sorry, Deanna, that you left this world so young, you didn’t deserve that. There is so much of your life I am going to miss”.
clearly a very disturbed guy who was not right in the head managed to get away with holding down the responsibility of being a police officer for years before he committed this heinous crime and slaughtered his own flesh and blood….do we need any more evidence that there is something seriously amiss in the way the United States manages/trains/recruits police?
