Cop Uses Extreme Force To Arrest A Female Black Student In A Classroom (UPDATE: NEW VIDEO)

Video footage of a police officer using extreme force to arrest a female black student in South Carolina, has gone viral on many social media platforms.

The video, which was obtained by WIS-TV, shows a school resource officer violently subduing a student at the Spring Valley High School in the state capital of Columbia.

At the beginning of the video, the officer can be seen violently hurling the student to the ground. The officer then drags her to the front of the classroom, while the rest of the classroom watches on.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott confirmed the incident, saying that the student had refused to leave the classroom and “was told she was under arrest for disturbing school and given instructions which she again refused.”

In a statement to local station WLTX 19, school officials also confirmed the veracity of the video and said the incident was “under investigation.”

The officer has been identified as Deputy Ben Fields. According to reports, Deputy Fields is currently on administrative leave. The anger expressed by those on both mainstream and social media, has prompted the US Attorney’s Office and Department of Justice to investigate the incident.

UPDATE 10/27/15: Second Video of Cop Attacking Schoolgirl is Released, Shows Officer Sitting on Her Body:

Meanwhile, a group calling themselves the Richland Two Black Parents Association, issued a statement to WIS-TV  saying they have grown used to being disappointed with the school district.

“Parents are heartbroken as this is just another example of the intolerance that continues to be of issue in Richland School District Two particularly with families and children of color. As we have stated in the past, we stand ready to work in collaboration to address these horrible acts of violence and inequities among our children,” the group said.

The Mic reports that in classrooms across the US, black girls are disproportionately on the receiving end of punitive and zero-tolerance policies. The African American Policy Forum also adds that these polices have resulted in thousands of black girls being pushed out of classrooms and, in many cases, locked behind bars.

Susan Ferriss of the Center for Public Integrity, said in 2013 that “the criminal justice system’s involvement in student discipline has gotten entirely out of hand in some communities.”

s 1

Using the Los Angeles Unified School District police as a case study, Susan found that students of color and under the age of 14 were issued citations at higher rates than other racial groups for seemingly minor infractions, like showing up to school a few minutes late.

The Graduate School of Education in Pennsylvania, also examined the suspension rates of students in 132 school districts in 13 Southern states. South Carolina yielded grossly disproportionate treatment for black students. Although black students make up 36% of those enrolled in the state, they make up 60% of those suspended from school (additional data from the Center for Public Integrity backs this up). Across 84 districts in Southern states, blacks students made up 100% of students suspended from school.

As a result of these injustices, school safety officers have been subjected to lawsuits in several US cities. According to the New York Times, in 2010, five students and their families brought a class action lawsuit against the New York Police Department. The five students claimed that the city’s officers “engage in a policy and practice of unlawfully seizing and arresting schoolchildren.” The Campus Safety Magazine also reports that the city of Oakland was forced to pay half a million dollars in settlement fees, when an officer shot and killed a man outside of a school dance and was pressured by the school district to lie about it.

    • THIS OFFICE DID NOT THINK RIGHT .HE MYBY COULD HAVE SLIDE THE CHAIR INTO THE HALL WAY WITH THE YOUNG GIRL IN IT THEN TALK TO HER OUTSIDE THE CLASS ROOM .THEN TALK WITH HER AND FIND OUT WHAT IS THE PROBLEM .WHAT THE OFFICE DID THEIR WAS AN INBARESMENT AND THATS WHY SHE ACT LIKE THAT .AND WHAT HAPPEND THEIR IS THE WAY MOST OFFICERS HANDEL PROBLEM ALL THE TIME .POLICE USE VIOLENCE OUR YOUG BOYS AND GIRLS SHOULD NEVER BE TREATED LIKE THAT!

    • I believe Even if all the population were one race, we as humans would find another way to divide us all and blame each side for our problems. It’s inevitable as humans we would literally be evolving if everyone on this planet just stopped giving a fuck about all our differences lol.

    • I watched this vid over 30 times including several times in slow motion I have yet to see the office use excessice force? Can someone tell me where the student is NOT the one at fault. I mean lets not forget that she alledgedly disrupted the class disobeyed the order from the teacher to leave and then when the officer was brought in we SAW her disobey him AND HIT A FUCKING COP. I think this cop needs a metal for not tasing or shooting this fucking kid. Please think about the message we send kids. This teen disrupted class ignored her authority figures demands refused a lawful order from a police officer and then assaulted him but the police officer gets fired?

      • I never comment on this crap but I happened to waste some of my time by reading your garbage and felt like calling you out on your pig headedness.

First of all the cop does deserve, as you said, a metal, a metal bar, across the shins, then to be fired, and jailed, for being an abusive piece of crap. If you were referring to medals, awards, those sorts of things… I’m sure you were and just clearly through all your well behaved days in class must’ve got confused between a type of solid matter and redundant awards given out mostly to monsters… then no, he deserves no such thing, unless it’s one issued to him from fellow inmates who get off on being racist power hungry monsters.

She pulled a phone out in class and disobeyed a teacher, those are not reasons to be jailed or detained. Some schools in the states can be rough, so cops on hand is more normal there, some teachers might be fed up and pushed to their limits so calling the authorities is their first reaction, which is wrong, but still slightly understandable. But she didn’t hit him, if that is what is defined as a “hit,” then we need some tougher training regiments for cops cause damn, looked like she just jerked her arm when she was violently assaulted in a classroom.

Oh and she was orphaned just recently, parents died, perhaps the teacher could have taken that into consideration when they called the cops in on her for being emotional and uncooperative. You know, being a teenager whose parents just died…

Fuck you Robert Henry, fuck your way of thinking, and fuck anyone who agrees with your bullshit mindset. The cop should rot in jail because fuck me if that is his reaction to that situation I don’t want to know how many black people he’s killed and gotten away with… and he needs to be put behind bars before he hurts someone else.

Once again, Fuck you Robert Henry, I hope you get really pissed off because your opinion is what is wrong with America and the world in general. You are a bad person.

    • Lol. Indeed they all are. To the Rothchild family and their associates. The sooner they use their right to bare arms the more chance they will have of overthrowing their oppressive government. The type of government that from Jefferson to JFK warned of
      .

  1. He should not have done that ,our bull…. Government system tell us we can’t whipp our children to teach them right from wrong.but an police officer feel he has the right to when the parents can’t without them saying bul….. Calling it child abruse locking the parents up for doing their job as a parent.come on bull…. A.. United States. Get real.they want everyone in the system, I don’t know why,we dont have to have a record for them to keep up with us.eveybody have s.s.#. They did that from rhe jump for reasons.

  2. I don’t see anything wrong. She wanted to put up a fight, she lost. Her fault for not getting her ass up, leaving. She should learn that she don’t run shit, she’s no one to act like she can do whatever she wants and don’t have to listen to no one. Good job, officer.

    • so if they say jump you should say how high? you would be good friends with the Nazi’s…sad for you you can’t go back in time and join them…if i was young and a cop came to my class room and did such a thing …he would get a chair across the teeth and a table on his head….f*ck such abuse of power…even if he is a cop it doesn’t give him the right to be beating children…where is the threat? is not standing up a threat? i don’t think so…it’s not being respectful at most but no reason to be thrown around like a rag doll….

    • What kind of an idiot cop is this? Starting a fight? A fight is when you can punch back and not land in jail for 50 years, so no, this wasn’t “a fair fight” which she lost, it was a fucking moron cop who tried to be bad ass, now I hope he gets fired and rots in his trailer park.

    • Oif you were in a class and refused to go.out by the teacher it doesn’t mean u can fling a women to the ground retard are u sure ur not mental ive got a few paper works for a mental school

  3. Was this excessive, probably. However, when did Anon start leaving out facts to promote a f*cking agenda. This is extremely disheartening, since I like to follow this site and believing in a lot of things you all do. Provide the facts and let people come to their own conclusions instead of omitting facts and forcing people to see what happened one way.

The girl was being disruptive. The teacher asked for her phone, she refused. After multiple times being told to leave the classroom and not, the ‘officer’ came and asked her again, SHE REFUSED. Then refused to comply resisted arrest and assaulted the officer (you can see in the video she is hitting him when he is trying to get her out of her seat).

Regardless of which side says what, the ‘officer’ didn’t just say to himself “Hm.. I feel like going into a random classroom and brutally attacking a student so I can get fired.” He was obviously called in there to remove a student from the class. Here is link to the South Carolina legislature that allows ‘officers’ to remove students http://www.judicial.state.sc.us/summaryCourtBenchBook/HTML/OffensesH.htm It’s under the “Disturbing Schools” since you obviously don’t want to take the time and do any kind of research before you write a trash article.

Anon should be, “provide that facts and let others decide” not “decide the facts and provide a clear agenda so our viewers sympathize with our cause”. Like I stated before, the ‘officer’s’ actions may have been a little excessive and he got fired for it, but how is this even race related? I want to continue on a tangent but why bother?

  4. I’m sorry but you don’t do that to someone, one she is a child and two she’s a female, also you would never see that happen to a white female tbh they probably wouldn’t be arrested they would be asked to come to the station and I’m not even black

  5. I just dont understand why does this kind of videos have allways the same title, something like “black woman, black man” in it. Is this supose to incrise racism? Why not just “Cop Uses Extreme Force To Arrest Student In A Classroom [Video]”? This make me quite hangry, because a black person is not just a person, is a BLACK person. Ridiculous … By the way, there are more videos from this incident, and although the WHITE cop use used extreme force to arrest a BLACK student, she kind of deserve it.

  6. Actually, the officer has the right to use extreme force. Doesn’t matter if she is a girl, black, purple, pink or white, or what age she has. That guy is hired to do a job, if he tells you to stand up and go out, especially with a REASON, then you stand up, go out and fix the problem you started. If you are innocent, no one will do anything to you, but if you think you are a smart ass and give a shit about an officer and actually try to make fun of them in front of other people, then you deserve a good beating. Its not nazism or communism or anything like that, its the fucking law, that thing that try to keep people from killing each other. Every day I see people that like to make fun of law officers, when some of those guys risk their life so you can enjoy your useless life without someone trying to kill you at every corner. If you want to be respected, start by respecting people around you! Sry for my bad english, it’s not my first language…

    • Just on the “poor English” comment: that was far more coherent than about 50% of the native English speakers. Absolutely no need to apologise. ?

  7. We’re all aware that she hit him first, right? There was no ‘brutality’. Just an officer reacting to what happened. Violence begets violence. if she hadn’t started anything, this wouldn’t have been blasted all over the internet.
