‘Children’ takes a critical look at the education system’s obsession with perfection

‘Children’ is a short animation exploring the dark side of schooling. Created by Japanese illustrator Okada Takuya, it portrays a gray world, a gray neighbourhood, a gray school with gray classrooms. In it sit rows of gray children, indistinguishable from each other except for the numbers stamped on their heads.

It is a thought-provoking film in many ways, looking at the way in which children are not treated as individuals within the education system and how it invariably molds them into sheep. It also forces us to consider the enormous pressure children are under from the minute they start school, and how dull their studies can be. Where is the time for play with all the classes and homework and studying for exams? How does the pressure to get straight As affect them mentally?

The gray children sit in silence day after day, working hard to win the best grades and their teacher’s approval. One boy feels the pressure to achieve building up inside of him as he queues up to receive his test scores. He explodes in a reaction against the constant pressure, inspiring the rest of his class to do the same…

  1. Not exactly based on reality.

Programming is a part of school, but this is just way off.

It doesn’t catch my eye, intellect, imagination or my heart. These are all separate but in one body, I felt no string getting played.

Doesn’t really need to be on AnonHQ, unless you’re just someone who’s not serious about freedom and all that.

    Cool. Bai.

    • I think it does, this video really represent the current education system not just primary, secondary and high school, But also Universities too. I tell you now the knowledge gained from universities are all about theories made 100 years ago with the same information but different style of teaching within those years we spend in schools we were only taught the past actions of popular peoples in those days but never asked to looked into the future and tackling problems which should be in the criteria of all education systems. Our Governments put a lot of money into our schools to improve the way we learn. Have it succeed yet? Having a ton of money to improve the infrastructure really doesn’t do squat its the system that needs to change: Text books needs to be assess and change, teachers should engage directly to discuss the problems of our society and how to change it, having students engage in public opinions or creating new things and give new ideas really can engage the students to think new ways not just going to school, study, recess, study, lunch, study and going home, everyday or most of the days given the excursions 1-2 per 2 years going to useless shit and gaining worthless knowledge that you can get with parents.
