EU Considers Sanctioning Israel over Settlements

The EU is taking disciplinary action against Israel over its incessant, illegal tampering of the homes of Palestinians. An internal EU document, drafted by the Political Security Committee in Brussels, has been obtained by Haaretz Daily, a leading Israeli daily news organization, containing a list of possible sanctions to be hammered on Israel if they don’t dissuade from violating the law that allows for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. israel-germany

Some of the possible sanctions being considered by the EU are sanctions against companies in Europe that carry out business activities on Israeli land – excluding pro-settlement, government official and settler’s organizations – and recognition of Palestinian statehood by individual EU member states.  Presently, some EU members like Slovakia, Hungary, Malta, Cyprus, Poland, Bulgaria and Sweden have recognized Palestinian statehood andover 130 nations have recognized them worldwide. Another sanction proposed in the EU document is reconsidering financing or capacity-building actions to help keep occupations the way they presently are, and also to provide support for Palestinian moves, including and applying to, international organizations and pursuing international acceptance.

According to what the senior European diplomat told the Haaretz,“amongthe Political and Security committee, which consists of the ambassadors of the EU’s 28 member states, there is an extensive fury among European officials, including foreign ministers who are considered immensely close to Israel, over the illegal actions of Israel that put in danger the establishment of Palestine.” According to the diplomats, “this measure was pushed by a large group of members when the talks between Israel and Palestinians failed, and when the war in Gaza ended.”  Israelis have been blamed by international observers, including US secretary of State, John Kerry, for the continuous expansion of their settlement building andfor ruining peace negotiations for the purpose of achieving “two-state” solutions.

To add to this, there is great fury and widespread international disbelief over Israel’s recent “Operation Protective Edge” war against Hamas and several rocket-shooting Islamist militants in Gaza. Ablood-flowing and brutal 50 day offensive attack which left a death toll of over 2,100 Palestinians and leftmany parts of the Palestinian area wrecked, with majority of innocent civilians dead, including 495 children and 253 women. “Even some Jewish states that are close allies to European states are up in armsagainst all these and other actions of Israel,” the diplomat told Haaretz. They said this move was propelled by several states, which include some states that are close allies of Israel, but now those states are hiding under the EU’s Foreign Service so that it will be labeled as the “bad cop.”The European diplomats said that,“this isn’t a case in which Eurocrats in Brussels are the only ones working against Israel. It shows that many member states are also angry and frustrated.”

In the past months there have been meetings among European ministers, who are very close to Israel, whom have made utterances in the most annoying way against Netanyahu and his government policies. The diplomat cited that the united resolution of the EU member states has been a cause for concern amongst all Israelis. They told Haaretz that all of the 28 member countries of the EU have agreed to discuss measuresagainst Israel, and that this should be a source of worry for the Israeli government as well as the Israeli people.

The problem with the settlement of Israel is that it is illegal under foreign laws and is being called a form of “ethnic cleansing” by some critics and Jewish-Americans.United Nations Human Rights Monitor, Richard Falk, is directly connected to Palestinian independence. The construction of Israeli settlements in the E1 area that is between theMa’alehAdumim and Jerusalem neighborhoods of GivatHamatos and HarHoma which lie on the Palestinian side of the Green Line, are a threat to the establishment of a truly independent and contiguous Palestine as its capital.

The documents by the EU also came up with good disciplinary actions against Palestinians in response to negative actions. The dissuading of Palestinian officials from seeking higher international recognition is part of those disciplinary actions.According to a report by The Telegraph, the intended penalties drew harsh disapproval from Israeli Foreign Minister,AvigdorLierberman.Following a meeting with the visiting German Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Lieberman said that there is no place for linking the bilateral relations that are between Israel and the EU to the relationship between Israel and the Palestinians.Lierberman also said that they will not agree to the definition of building in the Jewish territory of Jerusalem as being a“settlement activity.”

  1. About time the EU did this. It’s been way overdue. Israelis will no doubt try to paint Merkel as a Nazi but it will have no effect because people are sick and tired of Zionist accusations.

  2. There has never ever been a state called “Palestine”. This is a Soviet propaganda invention from 1960’s. By then the conflict was between Israel and Arabs but the World sided mostly with a few Israelis against hundreds of millions Arab aggressors (7 Arab armies invaded Israel in 1948 and lost, 3 Arab armies fought Israel in 1967). So Soviets told them to pose as a small nation, “Palestinians”.

The West Bank was part of Jordan between 1948 and Gaza strip part of Egypt. Why didn’t they create the “Palestinian State” then?

“Palestine Liberation Organisation” was created in 1964, three years before Israel seized West Bank/Gaza. “Palestine” is the biggest scam of 20th century.
