Even North Korea Couldn’t Take The US Election Seriously

The US presidential race was such an abysmally crafted display of mind-numbingly depressing entertainment that even North Korea couldn’t take it seriously.

In a white paper released on Sunday by the Korean Central News Agency, Pyongyang referred to the current election race as the “most indecent seminar on presidential election[s]” and the “most dirty to-and-fro conflict.”

Pyongyang expressed little hope for the future of American politics, adding, “It can be seen from this that there is neither man nor ideology nor spiritual and moral foundation to protect the country from destruction.”

However, North Korea assigns blame for the current situation to the Obama administration, arguing “the complete defeat of the Obama regime foretells the collapse of the U.S.”

Obama’s pivot to Asia strategy — a polite foreign relations term for a strategy to completely encircle China with bases and rivals — has started to backfire, with countries like the Philippines and Malaysia beginning to cozy up to China. Pyongyang has been heavily critical of the strategy.

North Korea’s criticism follows recent denunciation from American rivals China and Iran (neither one is famous for its commitment to democratic principles). China said the current elections signal the “decay of U.S. politics” and Iran stated that Americans’ choice between Trump and Clinton is a choice between “bad and worse.”

When authoritarian regimes are criticizing your country’s elections, alarm bells should probably start ringing.
