Georgia Man Wins $434,272 In Lottery, Donates Winnings, Gets Brutally Murdered In Home

A year ago Craigory Burch Jr, a 20-year-old forklift operator, was struggling to make ends meet. In November 2015, the Georgia native won $434,272 in the Fantasy 5 jackpot. After winning the lottery, he spent a large portion of his winnings buying Christmas presents for the poor families. On January 21, Craigory was brutally killed by home invaders after they couldn’t find his wallet.

Sounds heartbreaking? It is, more so because he could have lived had the state’s Fantasy 5 lottery allowed him to remain anonymous. Why is public disclosure of lottery winners mandatory? Isn’t letting everyone know who the winner is like telling thieves to come and rob the person?

Gunmen shot and killed a young man who had just won the lottery after trying to rob him

Craigory’s girlfriend, Jasmine Hendricks, who was at home with him when three masked armed men blew open the front door and demanded Craigory give up his wallet and money, told WALB:

“When they came in, he said, ‘don’t do it bro. Don’t do it in front of my kids. Please don’t do it in front of my kids and my old lady. Please don’t do that bro. Please don’t. I’ll give you my bank card’.”

That’s when Burch threw his pants to the robbers, who looked for but couldn’t find his wallet. Then they shot and killed him before running away.

“I feel he got the blessing he craved for, but was stripped of a blessing by some low life with envy, jealousy, evilness and greed. It saddens me to wake up at 8.30 in the morning to hear heart breaking news like this – a young man’s life is taken from stupidity,” Robert Coleman, Craigory’s friend, wrote on Facebook following Craigory’s murder.

  1. That’s horrible. He lives near me. I can tell you that southern Georgia has the nicest and most kind people here. I recently moved her from Colorado, and I am totally amazed at the people. I have been dealt nothing but a kind hand here. It’s totally amazing. I hope whomever is responsible is caught.

  2. Over here in Europe big lottery winners are protected. Their names don’t get published. You do see winners on TV who won a relative little amount. Just don’t publish the winners’names and let them be in all anomity if they choose to be so. The world is a rotten place filled with people who want to take what you got.
Mister Burch seemed to be af fine human being. Now he is dead. My regards and love to his family.

  3. like it was an introduction of giving money to charity… or is it just normal that people are killed everyday for giving money to charity? If something happens once, it doesn’t mean that it will happen again… someone knows enough of consciousness to create war where it doesn’t exist… by introduction
