Op-Ed by Dan Sanchez
You’ve seen those internet ads that offer “one weird trick” for eliminating belly fat or boosting testosterone, right? Well, here’s one weird trick for getting rid of ISIS and boosting our security from terrorism. The “trick” is non-intervention. And it is only weird in the sense that it is so uncommon in this age of war. Nonetheless, it works.
And it will work against ISIS because it was intervention that propelled its rise and it is intervention that sustains it. Non-intervention would eliminate ISIS by simply withholding its fuel and withdrawing its props.
The “one weird trick” has three easy steps. These steps are only “easy” for Westerners, because they basically amount to us refraining from constantly fucking things up. Once we get out of their way, the hard work will be done by locals, which is as it should be.
Step 1: The West should stop supporting the jihadist-led Syrian insurgency and stop supporting the regional allies (Turkey, Saudi Arabia, etc) that are also supporting it. With the flow of weapons and money cut off, rebels will defect and the ground forces of the secular Syrian regime that the U.S. has been idiotically trying to overthrow will be able to push ISIS and Syrian Al Qaeda out of Syria.
Step 2: The U.S. should stop supporting the sectarian Shi’ite government in Iraq. Only when that flow of weapons and money is also halted will Baghdad be forced to compromise with the Iraqi Sunnis they have been brutally persecuting for a decade. And only then will the Sunni tribes feel they can afford to turn against ISIS again, as they did in 2006. This will give the terrorists fleeing Syria nowhere to run.
Step 3: The West should stop directly bombing Syria and Iraq. Such attacks inevitably massacre civilians, and thereby only strengthen ISIS. Civil society is thus weakened and less capable of resisting the hardened extremists. Plus, more Muslim youth are thus radicalized by atrocity and more susceptible to extremist recruitment.
More American boots, European bombs, Turkish guns, and Saudi money will only feed the fire that fuels ISIS and make our cities more vulnerable to terrorist attacks. Just stop constantly subsidizing and contributing to the war and chaos that ISIS thrives on. That alone can starve and weaken that death cult enough for the non-psychotic elements of Syria and Iraq to unite and finally destroy it.
We have tolerated and enabled our governments’ bloody misadventures long enough. Get the West out of the Middle East, now.

Well yes …. but a continuous war also keeping workplaces save in the western world. Nothing more profitable than a war where both sides are supported.
The idea that the West can ‘turn off the supply of weapons’ to ISIS by ‘removing support for Turkey and Saudi Arabia’ is so fucking retarded it might as well have been written in crayon.
ISIS have oil wealth. They don’t rely on ballistic missiles or nuclear subs. They just need guns. There is a massive international black market in arms. If you have hundreds of millions of dollars, you’ll never want for hardware.
The only way to stop the flow of arms through Saudi Arabia (a phenomenally wealthy country) and Turkey (a pretty fucking wealthy country) is to invade those nations and occupy their borders.
No, sanctions won’t do it. Also the idea of imposing sanctions on either of those nations is laughable. Turkey is a critical NATO member against a resurgent Russia. Saudi Arabia holds the oily keys to the global economy. This is not simply a case of writing an angry letter to children.
You need to wake the fuck up and stop posturing like children. ISIS will not stop unless they are killed. Only a ground invasion and war of physical annihilation will end this. Only that.
The fact this answer doesn’t flatter your moral vanity doesn’t make it any less true.
that way you just tryina chop of a hydras head. that won’t do it either. can’t kill a thought with guns.
Thats hard when your own presidents have supported it, your comment might as well be toilet paper. First of all we can JUST LEAVE at any time, second of all you forget OLD lessons of supply and demand,
According to Tzu, logistical strategies are the third most important point after calculations and quantities. Logistical strategies are even more important than the balance of power and the possibility of victory because logistical success determines these points.
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
― Sun Tzu, The Art of War (WE dont even know ourselves, especially when criminals are in charge of our own country and supplying the enemy).
So, it all comes back to one point, if your leaders are corrupt bitches (shit rolls down hill) and supplying ISIS and hell some of them might even be ISIS. Comes from right in your own backyard, than ALL IS LOST. You might as well hang it up.
So don’t lie to the public, when your clueless yourself.
THE US PEOPLE ARE BRINGING THE GOVERNMENT TO COURT RIGHT NOW SUEING THEM FOR SUPPLYING MANY THINGS. ALL DEPARTMENTS. WE ARE OFFENED THAT THIS HAPPENED ALL HAPPENED AND ARE DEMANDING A CHANGE. WE ARE PULLING OUT CERTAIN LAWS THAT HAVE BEEN IN EFFECT FOR DECADES. I HOPE TO BE ONE OF THEM. RESTATUTION NEEDS TO BE GIVEN. EVEN THOGH SOME THINGS HAVE NO PRICE. I KNOW THEY KILLED MY WHOLE FAMILY.
Can someone get this post to be seen by the American and Russian presidents?…
I just want you know that some of yours steps are totally disaster for the future of Syria.
West should support rebels but first make sure that rebel leaders are not influenced by Jihadis and their ideology. Then West should make an agreement with rebels that if you want weapons and airstrikes, you should clean Jihadis from your ranks.
If Assad win, I can tell you that 99% of refugees will not come back to Syria and Assad will be much stronger than before. He will arrest/kill all who fight against his Army in civil war.
If current rebels win, Syria’s future will be like Iraq. In 5-10 years another ISIS will appear.
Only solution is either divide Syria or force Assad, FSA and the Kurds to find solution together.
ANONYMOUS HAD A GOOD IDEA STARVE THE INDUSTRIES. BREAK THE FAT WALLETS SUPPORTING THIS. IS THE ONLY PEACEFUL WAY. BUT WE THE PEOPLE MUST ALL STICK TOGETHER AND NOT BUY ANY NEW ITEMS UNTIL THEY ARE BROKE.
Here’s my trick for stopping the IS:
Step 1: Kidnap IS- Fighters
Step 2: amputate their extremities
Step 3: baptize them
Step 4: send them back
You must be a vegetarian.
but why? arms and legs are super tasty
RIGHT IT WOULD DROP WALLETS FAST. FAST IN THE US. AND HUMANS HAVE ROUND TEETH ANYWAY. I’VE BEEN VEGETARIAN FOR 14 YEARS AND IT HAS HELP ME IN ME HEALING. I WAS SHOT STABBED RAPED AND KIDNAPPED BY MY GOVERNMENT BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO USE MY FAMILIES MONEY. KEEPING ME BARELY ALIVE TO KEEP THE FEAR ON MY FAMILY. TO DO WHAT THEY WANT. THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT THE CITIZENS HERE EITHER. WE ARE PAWNS IN A DEADLY CHESS GAME.
The weird trick would really be to stop sticking our noses in where it doesn’t fucking belong!
WOW, what fools wrote that full of holes crap.
Pffft good luck explaining that to war mongering, mass dealers of arms and ammunitions.
I don’t like this new political stance that anonymous is taking. I like the actions, but when it comes to choosing wich piece of information or wich stance on war is more relevant, I already have other sources of information, and I would rather get the advice from experts in geopolitics.
I really support anonymous in its concrete hacking and/or IT actions, but not as opinion givers on world issues.
