Human Chain Formed Around Car to Prevent Baby Asha Returning to Detention Camp

The Australian debate forming around the fate of baby Asha has intensified as the announcement has been made to move baby and mother back to a detention camp.

Protestors today have formed a human guard around the car that holds baby Asha, after her mother was told they would have to return to detention in Nauru. The decision, made after treatment concluded at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, is guarded by in secrecy by immigration officials, neither confirming or denying the fate of the 12-month-old.

Asha was taken to the hospital after suffering accidental burns in a detention camp in Nauru. Hospital staff after, refused to release the baby on the grounds of a yet “suitable home environment is identified.” Hospital staff and protestors alike, have remained steadfast in protecting the baby and her mother from removal to Nauru. Since the protest, rumours have surfaced that a deal has been struck to detain the infant in a detention camp on Australian shores.
