SightsaversA Million Miracles campaign is trying to give the gift of sight to a million people. They are encouraging people in the UK to appreciate the value of sight and help eliminate avoidable blindness and support those who are irreversibly blind or disabled to live independently. The campaign, is three-year initiative that will bring life-altering cataract surgeries to one million adults and children living with preventable blindness, aims to fund one million operations that will restore, save and protect people’s sight in some of the poorest parts of the world.

A sight-saving operation costs £30 which means they need to raise £30 million by 2018. To support the campaign, from 15 September until 15 December all UK donations will be matched pound for pound by the UK government.

To inspire people to donate, Sightsavers asked three volunteers to experience living with cataract, by trying some specially made contact lenses, and see what life might be like with a visual impairment. The video shows volunteers’ reactions as well as features, Laurinda, who’s a single Mum of 7 and has been blind for about 4 years. Watch what happened…

Please consider donating a miracle. £30 can make a blind person see again.
