Well, if this isn’t proof that the US has gone mad, I don’t know what is. A network in America has stated that it will stage the FIRST EVER LIVE exorcism this Halloween on the 66th (I’m guessing they couldn’t hold out for another 600 years) anniversary of the exorcism of Ronald Doe, which inspired the creation of that Halloween favourite The Exorcist.
The ‘Exorcism: Live!’ (shouldn’t that be The ‘Exorcism: Dead!’?) show by the Destination America network will be conducted at the “Exorcist House” in a St. Louis suburb, the same place the Roland Doe exorcism had taken place some six decades prior…
Consisting of an A-list cast of supernatural hoodoo doers, it includes the cast of Ghost Asylum series, the Tennessee Wraith Chasers and renowned psychic medium Chip Coffey working together to find out “whatever or whomever has scared Americans to death for decades” and use “state of the art” technology to air “real exorcisms” and record any otherworldly activity. Seriously, calling it “scientific” is stretching the definition of the word when describing whatever they intend to do in that house. Using my supra-natural-sphincter powers, I predict that there will be many scientifically-proven “feelings of coldness”, “irrational fear” and “whispered voices”.
“As we step into one of the most haunted and well-known spirit destinations in America, Exorcism: Live! will show exactly what is inside this infamous, highly dangerous and possessed home,” said Marc Etkind, Destination America General Manager. “By actually exorcising this iconic house live, Destination America will do what it does best — bringing never-before-seen experiences to television,” he said.
Audience participation is apparently a big thing with this show, with cameras rigged all over the house you get to phone in whatever <cough>staged<cough> flying wig-sheet-UFO you “witness” while watching the feed. The show will air on the 30th of October…
