Nothing can possibly beat the thrill of a new text message. Particularly one that comes directly from your vagina...Or can there be?

A newly developed device, Looncup, is not your typical menstrual cup. It is in fact a new “Smart Cup.”  Kate from the Looncup team informed the Daily Dot via email that “Yes, this is the very first smart menstrual cup so it is the very first of it’s kind.”

For those uninitiated, a menstrual cup is that of a bell-shaped, silicone receptacle that is worn inside the woman’s vagina in order to collect their period blood during her monthly visit from Mother Nature. However, some women would prefer to use a traditional menstrual cup, as an eco-friendly alternative against pads and tampons. However, the menstrual cup wearer has the task of cleaning out their cup periodically. So, how does one know when the cup is actually full?

This is where the Looncup comes into play. The Looncup is connected to an application loaded into your smartphone, in which then displays information in real-time – just exactly how full your cup is. It also tells you when the time strikes to empty it, as well as the exact volume in which you are flowing. The more full your cup becomes, the more the alerts starts to roll in on your smartphone. This new device will also be able to assist in detecting gynecological issues by means of monitoring the color of your period blood, indicating any potential issues.

The name of this new device, Looncup, had came about as a play upon the traditional Mooncup. The Mooncup was one of the original menstrual cups on the mainstream market. Luna is the Greek Goddess of the moon, as reported by Kate. The Looncup was then designed by a team of several entrepreneurs, PhD’s in biomedical engineering, as well as product design makers, and of course, application makers and other marketers that want “Women to free themselves and get the information they need to lead healthier, more active lives.”

While the team does not possess a U.S patent for their new first-of-its-kind device, they do however, possess a patent in Korea. The team also has their product on KickStarter, and they have succesfully exceeded their initial goal of $50,000, still holding 21 days to raise their desired goals. This Kickstarter timeline has indicated that Looncup has plans to swing into full production as early as November, then proceeding into shipping to their backers sometime in January of 2017.
