Early Tuesday, Newsweek’s Twitter account was hacked by ISIS hackers known as ‘Cyber Caliphate’. The account was hacked at 10:45 a.m. and remained under their control for 14 minutes. Twitter’s support team quickly regained control over the account after receiving a request from Newsweek press. While under their control, Cyber Caliphate changed the profile picture and background image and replaced them with other images portraying activities of ISIS and the names of some of their militants.
Cyber Caliphate posted this tweet:
“While the U.S. and its satellites are killing our brothers in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan we are destroying your national cyber security systems from inside,” one image attached to a tweet said. “[We] continue CyberJihad inside Pentagons’ computer networks. Today we publish confidential documents from the US National Cyber Security Center.”
Cyber Caliphate also threatened Obama and his family via a tweet:
#cybercaliphate BLOODY VALENTINE’S DAY #MICHELLEOBAMA! WE’RE WATCHING YOU, YOU GIRLS AND YOUR HUSBAND!

After Newsweek regained access to their Twitter account, they tweeted:
These are the same hackers who recently hacked US Central Command’s Twitter account and many other high profile accounts. Cyber Caliphate also managed to hack the IBTimes website the same day.
I do not support our federal government or anything we do as a nation let them wash away the crime and caruption I just want my freedom. The freedom America lies about says I have.
The point isn’t that they ‘hacked twitter’ the point is they’re attacking the means of communication they’ve been using. As for threatening anyone because ‘you don’t like them’ you sound a lot like ISIS there, good job. While I don’t agree with you I don’t wish ‘someone would attack you’ just because you’re an idiot.
I support the people of this planet. I do not support nations or invisible lines on maps. We all live on this planet together. Once you figure that out (if you ever figure that out) we will all be better for it.
