NFL Star Richard Sherman Protests Against Tax Payers’ Money Used to Finance Stadiums Belonging To Billionaires

It is an open secret in the United States that the system has been structured in such a way that the rich get richer each passing day, while the poor get poorer.

In the United States, the most popular sporting activity is the National Football League (NFL). There are 32 teams competing in the NFL. Out of these 32 teams, 19 of them are owned by billionaires.

Despite these people being billionaires with much money to spare, they still rely on the poor tax payers’ money to build ultra-modern large stadiums where the football games are held, so that they can make more profit.

According to local reports in many NFL cities, the billionaires have corrupted city officials, allowing the billionaires to have access to public funds to finance their private activities, such as building of large ultra-modern stadiums. It is reported recently that when Oakland Raiders owner-Mark Davis announced that he may move his team to Las Vegas; city officials in Las Vegas also announced that they are ready to give him public funds to construct a new stadium.

In the city of Seattle in Washington, the multi-purpose stadium in the city opened in 2002, primarily for the Seattle Seahawks, and reportedly cost more than $560 million. City officials reportedly used $390 of public funds to finance the stadium. It will interest you to learn that the owner of Seattle Seahawks, Paul Allen is the 45th richest man in the world, with a net worth of $17 billion. He will be the primary beneficiary of the profits brought in by the stadium.

This dubious deal is not limited to only Seattle. In fact, it is said many NFL cities have done same thing with super-rich NFL owners. Even cities hoping to have NFL teams in the future are also ready to enter into such deals.

However, some critical and discerning citizens have realized how the billionaires and corrupt city officials are exploiting the ordinary tax payer, and have begun to speak against the ills of the system.

One such critic is Seahawks cornerback, Richard Sherman. Despite the fact that Sherman works for Paul Allen as a player of Seahawks, he has taken a bold stand. He has spoken against the greediness of his boss.

Sherman told ESPN in an interview, that if he had his way, he would never allow tax payers’ money to be used to build expensive stadiums for people who are already rich like his boss. He said the situation is worrying, and that he has been thinking about it, trying to make sense of what is happening.

“I’d stop spending billions of taxpayer dollars on stadiums .. .. .make the billionaires who actually benefit from the stadiums pay for them. That kind of seems like a system that would work for me,” MyNorthwest.com quoted Sherman as saying.

It is even reported that Sherman is considering running as independent candidate for the Presidential seat of the United States with a simple message: stop making taxpayers cover the cost of billionaires’ stadiums.

“I’d get us out of this deficit. I’d stop spending billions of taxpayer dollars on stadiums and probably get us out of debt and maybe make the billionaires who actually benefit from the stadiums pay for them. That kind of seems like a system that would work for me,” Sherman said.

Minds.com reports that in 2015, President Barack Obama tried to force a change so that public funds will no longer be used to finance these private stadiums.  However, it is said the proposal was thrown out of congress immediately, as it was put down. Observers say that is how far the rich have managed to get hold of the house that supposedly represents the interest of the American public.
