OMG! Did Google Crash?

3

Google has apparently been facing problems since last Thursday, one of which being ‘capacity.’ For example, Google Search and GMail quit working for individuals in nations including the UK, Netherlands, Iceland, France and India. For some, the Google Administration panel went down, while others endured continuous blackouts and brownouts in service… albeit, they were for a short period of time.

Tim D’Cruz, who works for WeAreHere.net, says that the outage was because of a DNS (or Domain Name System) blunder. It implies that the servers responsible for translating domain names (google.com, yahoo.com, etc.) into IP address was not working properly.

A blog entry by BGPMon, a monitoring firm, stated that the downtime was because of a problem with an Indian ISP.

Google has made no comments as of this time but the organization did, not surprisingly, direct the world’s attention to its ‘Apps Status Dashboard,’ which reflected that none of its services were encountering issues on Thursday morning.

A Google outage is an uncommon, however irritating, event. Google is a prominent, essential search provider and has numerous businesses that utilize GMail. Thousands, potentially millions, of individuals Thursday morning were confronted with the errand of attempting to explore the web without Google. It is shockingly difficult.

Unless otherwise noted, this status information applies to consumers services as well as services for organizations using Google Apps. The list of services displayed are: Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Drawings, Google Sites, Google Groups, Admin console, Postini Services, Google Hangouts (all with green lights before them).

Whatever the reason for the outage was, Google’s ‘inaccessibility’ can be fantastically troublesome, even when they are brief and/or intermittent as this one seemed to be. One such example was when Google’s Double-click advertising server went down for 60 minutes in November, likely costing distributors who utilize the service(s) millions of dollars.

Call it a coincidence or bad luck, but on Wednesday, Apple endured an immense outage that brought its online store, iTunes, the App Store and other different services offline from the net for several hours.

  1. Hello, Google has spoken out against the FBI proposing to obtain search warrants for any computer in the world. In addition to the GCHQ scanning the internet for all vulnerabilities and open ports, the NSA is still increasing it’s spying with satellites array that can see within the accuracy of 1m.
