Pope Tells Youth: Make A Mess, Rise Up Against Global Capitalism

At the end of his week-long visit to Latin America, Pope Francis gave a rousing speech to Paraguay youth and told them that it is their time to “make a mess”.

“They wrote a speech for me to give you. But speeches are boring. Make a mess, but then also help to tidy it up. A mess which gives us a free heart, a mess which gives us solidarity, a mess which gives us hope,” he said. “We don’t want young weaklings. We do not want young people who tire quickly, who live life worn out with faces of boredom. We want youths with hope and strength.”

Francis, in an earlier speech in Bolivia, Pope Francis issued a stunning rebuke and called the greed of capitalism a “subtle dictatorship” that “condemns and enslaves men and women”.

“Today, the scientific community realizes what the poor have long told us: harm, perhaps irreversible harm, is being done to the ecosystem. The earth, entire peoples and individual persons are being brutally punished. And behind all this pain, death and destruction there is the stench of what Basil of Caesarea called ‘the dung of the devil. An unfettered pursuit of money rules.

“The service of the common good is left behind. Once capital becomes an idol and guides people’s decisions, once greed for money presides over the entire socioeconomic system, it ruins society, it condemns and enslaves men and women, it destroys human fraternity, it sets people against one another and, as we clearly see, it even puts at risk our common home. I do not need to go on describing the evil effects of this subtle dictatorship: you are well aware of them,” he added.

A few days back, in a 180-page Papal Encyclical the leader of Catholic Church stated the richest owe the poorest a great social debt for creating the climate crisis, ignoring warnings of its dangers, and refusing to act.

  1. Yes, he may be saying we should rais a Revolution, but I thing that it’s just to get power for himself and for the Chatolic church. Because it’s all what it was for, power. The Church was only made for power, and religion is an, how to call it? Let’s say it’s an instrument of power. And i don’t talk only about Christianity, I talk about all religion, it’s all the same, they seek for power, and thats all.

  2. I dont agree. I dont think religion is created for power only, but Also to divide the People and set them up against each other…

  3. Here is the deal guys. The Popes intentions are not important. He has the power to rally a lot of people. He is actively calling out the global corporate power structure. He can open the eyes of many who otherwise would have spent their entire lives blind. He speaks to the hearts of millions upon millions of people that would not listen to anyone but him. His battle cry is close enough to our own cause that we can benefit from his efforts regardless of his intentions.
