Last month, Ricky Gervais took to social media and caused a stir with his Tweet mocking Rebecca Francis, a self-styled ‘huntress’, after she had posted photo of her lying next to the magnificent and beautiful giraffe she had killed with a longbow.

The Tweet by the comedian was retweeted 17,000 times alone and has also earned much online media coverage. As a result Francis has received ‘hundreds of thousands’ of death threats, despite this, she has openly said she has ‘no regrets’ about shooting the animal. Gervais’ latest post is in response to Rebecca Francis’s recent statement, in which she claims she killed the animal out of kindness, in an interview with Hunting Life Magazine. She said, ‘I was approached toward the end of my hunt with a unique circumstance. They showed me this beautiful old bull giraffe that was wandering all alone. ‘He had been kicked out of the herd by a younger and stronger bull. He was past his breeding years and very close to death. ‘They asked me if I would preserve this giraffe by providing all the locals with food and other means of survival. ‘He was inevitably going to die soon and he could either be wasted or utilized by the local people. ‘Once he was down there were people waiting to take his meat. They also took his tail to make jewellery, his bones to make other things, and did not waste a single part of him. ‘I am grateful to be a part of something so good.’ Gervais then proceeded to ridicule the ‘huntress’ with his Tweet.

Out of kindness? Are you kidding me? Giraffes get kicked out of herds all the time. Just because it’s past it’s breeding years doesn’t mean that another herd won’t take it in. Yes the meat went to feed people but there are cows and other wildlife she could have killed instead to feed them. Absolute bullshit.

Some animals are wild, endangered and their habitat is being decimated meaning in 6 months to 20 years, species dependant, they will be extinct. Others are farmed, bred for our dinner table and are part of our daily diet.

I am in no way agreeing with this woman and her attitude to hunting does not agree with me at all.
But I think the biggest hypocrisy is that some animal are cute and therefore can not be eaten but other animals are ugly and they are ok as long as they come in a plastic wrap in the supermarket.
I eat meat and I have slaughtered a variety of animals if not for learning how to do it and how to use everything on the animal.

I am a vegetarian and I think eating of ALL and EVERY animal is wrong. The killing of ALL and EVERY animal is wrong. No, not just the cute ones. I am English and we campaigned for the most basic chickens kept over here for cheap food. If the world is going to eat meat, as it surely will, the very least the world can do is provide humane care for those animals. The animals’ ends do not justify the means. Animals are NOT made of meat my friends, meat is made of animals. Know the difference and treat them accordingly. Animals for food have the right to live humanely before death, the fact of their impending death does not abrogate that right. As for this cruel heartless bitch, if she eats every animal she kills from now on, and I mean all of it, then my opinion of her may change but I doubt that she will. She enjoys killing, she likes it. I’m all for eating sustainable animals, however, it should be done in moderation. Our livestock farms have grown to a proportion that is destroying the planet. That being said, I love steaks, bacon and chicken.
