Elementary school teacher Linda McLean, 56, has filed a federal lawsuit against Pine Eagle Charter School in Halfway, Oregon. This includes the school principal, several members of the school board, Alpine Alarm Communications and Construction LLC, as well as Shawn Thatcher, the school’s safety supervisor. McLean is seeking lost wages, medical costs and punitive damages, for being subjected to psychological cruelty, at the hands of the school administrators in April 2013.
Linda is suing her rural school district over the lingering stress she feels following a surprise active shooter drill that administrators had held two years back. Linda was in her classroom when a masked man in a hoodie and goggles burst in with an assault rifle, lowered it to her head and pulled the trigger. She thought about her family, her grandchild, her life through the ordeal. According to Linda, she and other teachers had no clue that it was a drill, was fake and that the ‘training scenario’ was to just test her ‘preparedness’. None of them were told that this was going to happen, and none of them had consented to be a part of it.
“McLean could not figure out what was going on. She felt very confused. Her heart was racing. She walked out of the classroom and saw a pistol lying on the ground. She wondered if she was really shot and was going to die.”
“She could not shake the event but continued to relive it and try to make sense of it. Ms. McLean could not sleep, and remained anxious and vigilant. When she drifted off to sleep, she experienced nightmares and sweating. Doctors diagnosed McLean with post-traumatic stress disorder and urged her to return to the school as a form of desensitization. However, when she returned she was short of breath, anxious, emotionally distressed, and had to leave. She has not returned to the school building since,” read the lawsuit.
Now Linda wants reparations for her involuntary separation from employment, her medical and psychological treatment, and the loss of retirement contributions and fringe benefits.

just arm the teachers that pass mental & security tests & this kind of drill will never be needed. BUT FIRST< WHY WERE THEY NOT TOLD IT WAS A DRILL????
