UK Sex Offenders: Location Unknown

1

At the very beginning of the week where the Australian NSW Premier Mike Baird announced tough new laws of life imprisonment against anyone convicted of raping a child,[1] the United Kingdom is facing a troubling dilemma: it has had to admit that it has lost track of up to 400 convicted pedophiles. According to a freedom of information request by the Press Association, 396 convicted offenders locations are unknown by the police, some for up to over a decade. [2]

The Ministry of Justice published figures showing that hundreds of sex offenders are dealt lenient sentences by British judges despite the “abhorrent” nature of crimes against children, with a reflection of re-offending in figures recently published. [3]

The U.K. has been shrouded in controversy [4] ever since the re-opening of investigations into a pedophile ring that had the membership of several  elite Britains. Their numbers are drawn from the aristocracy, parliament and even the entertainment industry.

Philip Davies, the Tory MP who disclosed the figures, said sex offenders were not “feeling the full force of the law.” As far back as 2011, he was also quoted speaking about the light restrictions against sex offenders with regards to accessing children: ‘This is very worrying. What concerns me is the criminal justice system always seems to put the rights of the criminal ahead of the public and victim.”[5]
