We would like to share with you a 15-minute video that can show you how you can change your life and become productive to yourself, your community, your nation, and the world as a whole.
At the TEDx Teachers College, Joe Martino, owner of the alternative media-Collective Evolution, shared with the crowd the life lessons he believes will bring the change we are looking for as individual entities in our community.
TEDx is an independently organized event that was created to spread ideas that are worth sharing. It is a program of local, self-organized events that brings people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks videos and live speakers are combined to spark deep discussions and connections.
Martino’s talk can be summarized with the following questions: Why do we fear change? Why does our education system lack personal development? Are we at the forefront of the biggest change we’ve ever experienced?
To help answer these questions, he explained that fear almost prevented him from accepting TEDx’s invitation to do the presentation. He then went on to share his childhood experience, admitting that he faced many challenges growing up as a child.
“I couldn’t believe this was the same kid from Pope. This Joe was confident and passionate. He seemed completely at ease discussing his struggle with depression and anxiety and preaching his life’s mission,” one of Martino’s childhood friends said after watching his talk on stage.
Admirably, Martino did not let these challenges stop him from becoming what he is today. From Martino’s point of view, change starts within us. According to Martino, when you look at the organization of society, the individual level is the basic unit. The individual level is then followed by the community, the nation, and finally the rest of the world.
Martino’s inspirational message teaches us that before we can have the change we all want, we need to start doing something ourselves. There is no magic to change; change simply starts within the individual. As you watch the video, reflect on the issues he touches on and try to rationalize them with common sense.
