Young Girl Who Lost Her Family in Arson Attack Asks Only for Cards this Christmas

Schenectady, N.Y. – In 2013, Safyre Terry, an 8-year-old girl from New York, lost her family in an arson fire. This amazing young lady has since faced odds most of us could not begin to imagine, and she has only one simple wish this season—to fill her Christmas tree with cards.

According to reports, Safyre was 5-years-old at the time of the fire, and has since endured numerous surgeries (more than 50) for the burns that covered over 75% of her body and claimed her right hand and left foot. She survived the arson attack that took her family thanks to her father, who protected her with his own body—when firefighters found the young girl, she was still held in his arms.

Safyre now lives with her Aunt, Liz Dolder, and after seeing the family Christmas tree designed to hold cards, she said she couldn’t wait to fill it up. Her Aunt posted the request to Facebook, and it has since gone viral.

In a report from The Examiner:

“Her auntie and uncle care for her, but what with scarring, surgeries, skin grafts, stares, disability, post-traumatic stress disorder, loneliness, emotional scarring from arson, fear, perhaps survivor guilt, life isn’t easy. The holiday season is particularly difficult for anyone struggling with grief, loss, pain and suffering.”

While Safyre asks only for cards this Christmas, contributions can also be made to her family for medical expenses here at Safyre’s YouCaring page. Thanks to social media and the generosity of others, she has been receiving a wonderful turnout, and we here at AnonHQ believe it can be better. One simple, kind act can make a world of difference to this extraordinary young lady who has faced unimaginable odds, and arisen from the ashes as an inspiration for us all.
