America has had more than its fair share of gun violence; a shootout occurred in a New Orleans park where hundreds were partying while filming a music video.
16 were wounded, according to the police, by gunfire that erupted at approximately 6.15PM on Sunday. The venue for the hostilities was the ironically-named Bunny Friend park.
Tyler Gamble, spokesman for the New Orleans police department, stated that it was “too soon to say” if gang violence was involved. It is as yet unclear what had provoked the shooting.
“We know, by speaking with some of the victims, that there were two groups of people shooting at each other,” Gamble said.
Immediately after shooting at each other, both groups were seen fleeing on foot by witnesses of the crime.
A fourteen-year-old girl was hit once in the knee and five times in the buttocks. The unfortunate victim was in a truck with her mother, Kawandra Hayney, as they drove past the venue. Hayney was able to pull her daughter out of the truck, hiding beneath the vehicle in a drainage ditch.
“I saw the police coming, and I ran over to them,” she said. She had counted seven bullet holes in her truck.
10 of the gunshot victims were sent to the local hospital via ambulance, while 6 arrived in private vehicles.
Gamble: the 16 victims suffered either a “direct gunshot wound” or a “graze wound”. All victims were listed in stable condition, though the full extent of their injuries was still to be ascertained.
Hundreds of people were gathered at the Bunny Friend playground for an illegal block party and filming of a music video. Perhaps they should have been more careful about the props they chose.
Chris Goodley, New Orleans police commander said the crowd at the park had remained “orderly” after the shooting, “but we were trying to preserve the crime scene as best as we could and tend to the victims.”
A man with a silver machine gun was seen fleeing on foot, while police have told WVUE-TV that the shooting broke out as a result of a fight.
Although hundreds were at the park, strangely no video footage of the actual events as they unfolded have been released so far.

All I hear you gun lovers saying is “the problem with all these guns is there aren’t enough guns to stop all the guns. We need more guns!” Just how stupid does that sound?! Everyone armed and every disagreement having the potential to escalate to someone dying.
