#SueMeSaudi: Saudi Arabia Sues The Internet For Comparing It With ISIS

Saudi Arabia has turned into a threat of global proportions, by threatening the entire (online) globe with a lawsuit.

It will (attempt to anyway) sue any Twitter user who compares the its decision to sentence a Palestinian poet to death with the actions of ISIS (which I must say, also beheads and crucifies “apostates”) .

Saudi Poet Sentenced To Die

The decision to kill the poet for the “heinous” act of renouncing Islam ( in itself is based on shoddy “evidence”) caused uproar on the internet, with human rights organizations condemning it and at least one Twitter user comparing Saudi Arabia with the Islamic State.

“The Justice Ministry will sue the person who described … the sentencing of a man to death for apostasy as being `ISIS-like‘,” said the Al-Riyadh newspaper, quoting a source in the Justice Ministry, as cited by Reuters.

The Twitter user at the center of the storm has not been identified, while the possible sentence he or she may face has not been revealed.

The Justice Ministry (haha) is apparently unaware of the definition of “guaranteeing rights” or”human dignity”, because it said:

“Questioning the fairness of the courts is to question the justice of the Kingdom and its judicial system based on Islamic law, which guarantees rights and ensures human dignity,” the Al-Riyadh publication quoted the Justice Ministry source as saying. The ministry would not hesitate to put on trial “any media that slandered the religious judiciary of the Kingdom.”

This threat has been met with outrage online, with Twitter users responding with #SueMeSaudi while comparing Saudi Arabia with ISIS.

Ashaf Fayadh is the poet in question, and he was detained in Abha, Southwest Saudi Arabia. Apparently the evidence of his “crime” comes from a single prosecution witness who “claimed he heard Fayadh cursing God, the Prophet Mohammed and Saudi Arabia”.

A Saudi court had already sentenced him to four years in prison, and 800 lashes… a lash every other day keeps the executioner away… this has now turned into a death sentence because Saudi judges get to impose sentences according to their own interpretation of Sharia law… basically they get to do whatever the f*** they want.

A second judge simply decided that the defense’s witness testimony was ineligible, and that he would only consider the prosecution’s witness testimony.

Saudi Arabia has already executed 150 people this year, and it is intent on breaking its 1995 record of 192 executions by executing 55 people on the same day in the near future.

Saudi Arabia’s macabre spike in executions this year, coupled with the secretive and arbitrary nature of court decisions and executions in the kingdom, leave us no option but to take these latest warning signs very seriously,” said James Lynch, deputy director of the Middle East and North Africa Program at Amnesty International.

Of course, this makes Saudi Arabia the perfect candidate to “be head” of the UN Human Rights Council. It has an ample supply of heads.
