Last month, Syria’s UN ambassador claimed that about a million Syrians have returned to “home cities liberated by the Syrian military with Russian air support,” according to RT.
Bashar Jaafari, Syrian ambassador to the United Nations said that,“this is precisely what happens when it comes to Syrian-Russian collaborative military action against terrorists and exchange of intelligence between Syria, Iraq, Iran and Russia. This has practically resulted in terrorist groups’ retreat from [their positions in] many areas, which allowed 1 million internally displaced persons to return safely to their homes.”
According to the Syrian ambassador, as reported by TASS, the Syrian government was ready to cooperate“with any state which has a serious approach to combating terrorism.”
Jaafari notes that the outcome of the Syrian military’s advance against ISIS was positive:
“is in the entire world’s interests” because “every time the Syrian army engages a foreign terrorist, it saves dozens of innocent lives who might be threatened whenever [the foreign terrorist] returns home.” Jaafari also said that those carrying out terror attacks on cities around the world such as Paris“were among thousands of Europeans who came to Syria to wage jihad.”
Many from the Middle East and North Africa make the journey to Europe as refugees due to the violence and unrest in the regions, which according to RT was “torn apart by the violence and unrest that erupted after the so-called Arab Spring”.
2 million asylum seekers are expected to descend upon Germany. EU governments have responded with what RT calls ” a massive campaign by politicians and the media, playing on fears that the influx could seriously affect those countries’ safety.”
Bavarian Finance Minister Markus Soeder claims that “one million is way too much. Conceivable at best, is an orderly immigration of between 200,000 and 300,000 people.”
Two of the Paris attackers are believed to have entered the EU as migrants; French police claimed that that the discovery of a Syrian passport near the body of one terrorist was evidence.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees estimated that over 4 million Syrians have fled their country. 7.6 million Syrians are also believed to be internally displaced, with many surviving in subsistence conditions.
Russia began its strikes against IS on the 30th of September, responding to a request by the Syrian government. They have deployed over 50 aircraft and helicopters, as well as Russian Navy corvettes.
