Nikita Kamaev, former executive director of Russia’s anti-doping agency, Rusada, has died according to the BBC which quoted Tass news. Former director general of Rusada, Ramil Khabriev said that his death appeared to have been caused by a heart attack.
Kamaev resigned from Rusada in December, along with other top executives such as Kabriev. The organisation was prohibited from doing any World Anti-Doping Agency activities. His death comes as Russia was suspended from international athletics last year. The World Anti-Doping Agency accused Russia of state-backed doping, corruption, and extortion.
“It looks like an extensive infraction,” Mr Khabriev said, “He complained of heartache after a skiing session. He has never complained about heart problems, at least to me. Maybe his wife knew about such problems.”
The World Anti-doping Agency report led the IAAF to take action. Russia was hardly the only country found to have broken doping regulations; Argentina, Ukraine, Bolivia, Andorra and Israel were also found guilty in the report.
