In a bizarre turn, Elijah Wood has claimed that the Sunday Times exclusive interview was “twisted into a commentary on Hollywood’s pedophilia secret.”
The newspaper article made headlines around the world after reporting that Elijah Wood was sick and tired of the industry “preying on” child actors. He was quoted as saying: “Clearly something major was going on in Hollywood. It was all organized. There are a lot of vipers in this industry, people who only have their own interests in mind.”
“There is darkness in the underbelly,” Wood reportedly added to the Sunday Times interview. “If you can imagine it, it’s probably happened.”
Since the interview has gained such notoriety, Wood has attempted to set things straight, saying the interviewer’s initial intention was more about his latest film but the interview quickly turned into something else.
“It prompted a number of false and misleading headlines. I had just seen a powerful documentary and I briefly spoke with the reporter about the subject, which had consequences I did not intend or expect. Lesson learned,” Wood said of the interview.
However, not denying that he made the comment: “There are a lot of vipers in this industry, people who only have their own interests in mind,” Wood, albeit unintentionally, isn’t the first to highlight the sinister side of Hollywood.
Corey Feldman and Corey Haim have, in the past, highlighted the goings-on behind Hollywood doors, with Feldman claiming pedophilia is “rampant,” and the late Corey Haim claiming he was “raped – so-to-speak.”
However, Chris Snider, who managed Corey Feldman, Drew Barrymore, River Phoenix and other big names, blames the parents for putting them into show business in the first place, not pedophilia.
“The biggest problem…is when the parents start to live through their kids…quit their jobs and buy expensive houses…and the parents aren’t of the understanding that it’s not going to go on forever and it just wrecks everything,” Snider said during an interview.
Feldman goes on the record, however, as saying: “The number one problem in Hollywood was and is and always will be pedophilia. That’s the biggest problem in this industry…it’s the big secret.”

Soooo, that’s rather a non-article. If Wood was quoted out of context, it might’ve helped for this article to put things right. For instance, what aspect of the Hollywood scene was he speaking about? “Darkness”, “vipers” “preying” are all highly charged words. If he wasn’t specifically talking about sexual abuse, what WAS he commenting on? What documentary was he watching?
