We have a new celebrity in town. Not a human being, but a bird. Images of a seagull have gone viral on many social media platforms after it fell into a vat of chicken tikka masala and turned bright orange in color.
The incident happened in Wales, United Kingdom. An eyewitness said the hungry bird was trying to scavenge meat from a bin of an outdoor food factory when accidentally, the bird fell into the waste vat of chicken tikka masala. It was quickly rescued by workers at the factory and later picked up by a volunteer for Vale wildlife hospital and Rehabilitation Centre, near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, England.
When the bird arrived at the hospital, staff used washing-up liquid to remove the bright orange from the feathers. They returned him to its original white color. However, they failed to wash away the smell of the curry.
A veterinary nurse at the hospital, Lucy Kells shared the ordeal of the bird in a Facebook post. Lucy wrote: “He really surprised everyone here – we had never seen anything like it before. He had fallen into a waste vat of curry that was outside, it was chicken tikka masala. The thing that shocked us the most was the smell. He smelled amazing, he really smelled good. He is a bit skinny so we are building his strength up a bit. I guess that’s why he was trying to get a piece of meat from the vat and fell in.”
The post went viral immediately after it was posted. Many people expressed sympathy with the poor bird. Some said they wanted to see it physically and get a sense of its new smell. The bird was later nicknamed “Gullfrazie” on Facebook. The bird is thought to be over two years old because of the color of its feathers.
Lucy revealed they have caged it, and staff are feeding it with meat, dog and cat food, and pieces of chopped fish to build up his weight. Lucy also said the bird will be transferred to an outside aviary to re-waterproof its feathers in the coming weeks.
After this exercise, it will have its freedom back. It will be released into the wild to join the others to beautify nature.
The Vale wildlife hospital is a registered charity established in 1984. Currently, the facility cares for about 5,000 animals a year.
