Two teenagers are in a serious condition after they were electrocuted while trying to take a selfie on top of a train. A prediction: Someone in the comments section is probably going to make an inappropriate “Darwin/ survival of the fittest” comment, and somebody else is probably going to tell him that he should probably just off himself. Just a prediction.
Olesya Belmasova and Anastasiya Kirillova, both 16, went to a train station in the city of Taganrog in southern Russia. Their injuries seems to be related to a fad to take selfies in dangerous places. As expected, these things don’t always go to plan.
They tried to climb on the tank car of an old freight train that was standing at the platform – but didn’t realise it was still in use and on a live track. Hopefully we can get the detailed workings of trains into the curriculum?
The pair accidentally touched the track and were electrocuted with thousands of volts of power. A horrified train worker who witnessed the scene said one of the girls appeared to ‘explode’.
He said: ‘I was walking towards them to ask them what they were doing when they were suddenly blasted to the ground.
‘One was completely blackened and the other was on fire as if she had exploded.’
The pair were taken to a nearby children’s hospital with 70 per cent burns over their bodies and a number of fractures.
Anastasia, who was still able to talk, said: ‘We climbed on top of the tank car and then I heard a loud clap. We fell off the car and onto the ground.
A witness said one girl seemed to ‘explode’ (Picture: CEN)
‘My hair was on fire and I was in so much pain.’
Both girls are said to be in a serious condition. Hopefully they get better soon, and hopefully they think of a way to keep teens from accessing the train yard…
.
A police spokesman confirmed: ‘They wanted to take some photos from the top of the tank car but were injured by a high-voltage electric current.’

I’ll go there…
One word: Darwin
Go off yourself.
Why would touching train tracks ELECTROCUTE people? I’ve crossed tracks many times, no electrocution. Only in Russia…
They touched the live “track” on top of the train. You can’t get shocked by the track on the ground.
