The Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel, Yitzhak Yosef has urged his country to remove all gentiles (non-Jews), who do not believe in the Seven Laws of Noah from Israel to Saudi Arabia.

The Seven Laws of Noah, also referred to as the Noahide Laws, are said to have been given by God as a binding set of laws for the children of Noah – that is, all of humanity. The laws include: Do not deny God. Do not blaspheme God. Do not murder. Do not engage in illicit sexual relations. Do not steal. Do not eat of a live animal. Establish courts/legal system to ensure obedience to the law.

Chief Rabbi Yosef is a very influential among Sephardic Jews in Israel, and outside Israel. He is the author of a popular set of books on Jewish law called Yalkut Yosef.

The Times of Israel quoted Rabbi Yosef as saying non-Jews who do not believe in the Seven Laws of Noah, should not continue living in the land of Israel. According to him, the Laws are mandated by Judaism (the official religion of the Jews), and that the state of Israel should respect its religion by forcing disbelievers out of the land.

“According to Jewish law, gentiles should not live in the Land of Israel. If a gentile does not agree to take on the seven Noahide Laws, we should send him to Saudi Arabia. When the true and complete redemption arrives, that is what we will do,” Yosef was quoted as saying in a sermon on March 26, 2016.

Yosef also said the only reason non-Jews were still allowed to live in Israel, is because the expected Messiah of the Jews is yet to arrive. He said “If our hand were firm, if we had the power to rule, that’s what we should do. But the thing is, our hand is not firm, and we are waiting for the Messiah.”

Local media in Israel report that Rabbi Yosef had stirred controversies in the past, just like his late father, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. In 2010, he reportedly said non-Jews only exist to serve Jews. This statement created tension between Jews and non-Jews in the country.

Apart from this, recently, he urged Israelis’ to kill knife-wielding Palestinians without fear of the law. He said this during a sermon at the famous Yazadim Synagogue in Jerusalem, describing Palestinians as terrorists.

“If a terrorist shows up with a knife, it is commanded by Jewish law to kill him. You shouldn’t be afraid. He who comes to kill you, arise to kill him first. Don’t start worrying that someone will take you to the High Court of Justice, or that some Israeli Defense Force chief of staff will say otherwise,” local media quoted him as saying.

In 2015, Yosef was publicly criticized after he admitted submerging a Smartphone, belonging to one of his students, in water. He defended himself that he took the action because the phone rang when he was giving important lecture, which needed concentration. He claimed the phone was distracting the class. He later launched a strong campaign against Smartphones.
