Google is now helping webmasters and website owners to fix their unsafe or infected websites, highlighting those problems and providing a guide to fix them. The search engine giant uses a Safe Browsing technology, which is used by their search engine, informing users that the website that they are going to, can be malicious or dangerous for their machine.
However, on the back end of the whole thing, Google uses bots and crawlers to scan the websites, throughout. All scanned websites that are infected, that offer adware, or viruses for downloads, are noted down.
Even though many websites deemed unsafe by Google – that are hosting all those malicious goodies – are not always done or hosted intentionally. In fact, many of the listed websites have been infected or attacked. However, if your website(s) is on the list, and you have removed the threat, you can ask Google to rescan the website to have it removed from the ‘blacklist’. Most times, the issue is not addressed correctly and the owner of the website does not completely remove the infection, hence the rescan offers no assistance to the property.
It is from this, that Google has decided to help webmasters; reducing such cases by updating the information in their Search Console and providing brief explanations about other related security issues that are detectable on a website.
Google, in their blog post, said that if the user needs specific details, then they are willing to provide them. Put simply, they will reply to your requests. The company further went on saying that it is a good practice to register your website on Google’s Search Console, even if they are infected. This will in turn, save the bots time on sending instructions on how to fix it. Since the infected website will already be registered, the instructions might arrive within a week, as opposed to a few months.
According to Google, they are proud of protecting users browsing the Internet via their safe browsing technology, and because of it, there are more than fifty million users warned by their safe browsing technology on a weekly basis.
A report published by Google states that because of their new Safe Browsing technology and their response system, web developers have removed the malware from their websites within a period of two months; Google then removes the website from their list within 3 months (though the times may vary).
